Carb diaphragms

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Mungo \Two Sheds\ Toadfoot, Feb 28, 2007.

  1. I'm guessing that they're not supposed to be very baggy when in position?
What, if any, running problems would this give?

The Viagra revs fine on a partially open throttle but isn't keen on full
throttle when it will bog down so I'm trying to find likely causes.

Hold them up to the light. If you can see splits, holes (even pinprick
    holes), replace them.
When the slides are closed, the diaphragms will appear creased or 'baggy'.
    This is normal.

  3. They were 'fraying' in a couple of places around the edge but I've sorted
that. I did look for obvious splits but not tiny ones so I'll whip them out
again and have a closer look.
    That's good then. Thanks.

  5. £32 each? Bargain! I'm sure I saw some on eBay for around £90 each fairly
    recently. Appreciated, thanks.

  7. No2 son had this problem recently. Investigation revealed that one
diaphragm was no longer held properly at the end of the piston by the
inner sleeve and washers - so much so that the whole lot fell out in
bits when the cover was taken off.

A single drop of superglue became his friend :)
Do take care you get the piston the right way up - comparison with
    the other is advised!
