Thieving cunts at Admiral wanted £501 on the renewal. FRO.
Cheapest on the compare site was Hastings Direct - £390.
Read in the paper this weekend that if you sign up to their
"cashback" site [1] you get £50 cashback... with Hastings!

Did the sign-up, used their click-through link and entered
all the details again ... quoted £342. "Oh" thinks I, that
figure includes the cashback then. Still, cheaper than
    Admiral so I purchase it.

Just got notification on my Cashback account that I have
    a £50 credit from Hastings :)

[2] use the link on Fakebook and I earn £2 as well ;-)

    Result! Not...

They want 1,254.77 for my wife's 1.4 207 with eldest daughter on the
    policy (19)

I already have a quote for 570-ish - amazing the range of premiums isn't
    it.

Hell yeah. I used confused.com first time round as
e-sure wouldn't even quote for the car as it was
£18K worth of Germany's finest pollution maker. That
got me quotes from 420-950, all for basically the
same thing. Unsurprisingly we went with the cheapest,
which was Admiral, who have that nasty habit of doing
the "oh look, we have your payment details on file
so we're going to renew your insurance automatically
unless you tell us otherwise" thing. Except they
won't this time 'cos the card details expired last
    year ;-)

At which point, they renew the policy anyway then throw a stroppy at you
for failing to pay for it...

kewl, so i'm not the only one noticing that these comparison sites are more
    expensive than going direct.

insurance for my new cage (when it gets here) was around £390 through
tesco's comparison site, big banner accross the top of the page 'the price
we display is the same as going direct)

so i tried going direct, got a quote of £260 for exactly the same cover,
plus i found out that that particular insurer dosent charge anything extra
for paying monthly, tesco made no mention of that... might have done when
you had given away your life details to them, but it's something else to add
to the prices when shopping around and wanting to pay the council estate way
    :)
