MrBitsy () gurgled happily, sounding much
    like they were saying :
which collapsed onto a railway line, causing a train to crash through the
side of the local air traffic control centre, which caused a 747 loaded
with anthrax spores to land on Westminster?

I think there was a TV program about that recently, wasn't there?
So - what would you do in that situation now, Ray?

I didn't say that you don't know the difference. Clearly I do too.

I am saying that when you /think/ that a biker is using Full Beam, you
don't /know/ that they are using Full Beam.

The above cited research is a reason why I don't ride with my lights
on in anything other than low light conditions. I will 'fix' any new
bike that doesn't let me turn the lights off.

We believe all of that. No, really, we do.
But this is bollocks. Anyone who knows anything about the IAM knows
they don't do 'courses', great or otherwise.

I also find that a bike with its headlight on _and_ the sun behind makes
it really difficult to see. With the headlight off, there's a sillhouette
effect. With it on, it just blends in with the bright light.

Personally I prefer green flashing lights, a klaxon, and a man with a red
flag. It's the only way to be sure.

  9. Ok. I understand; you guys don't want to talk about it.

I thought you said that bikers crash on corners that they could have got
round safely if they were more skilled. This seemed to imply that the way to
stop crashes is to train bikers to all be cornering gods.

Well, that's ruined the spectators' fun in watching your little friend
Raymond squirm about, missing the point all over the place ;-)

However - does the Highway Code really state all that - the mass
transfer bit, I mean. I'm not quite sure what you mean about
"positioning yourself with more force", either. Do you mean that I
need to throw myself forward violently - or has your phrase translated
    poorly from the original Cantonese?

Shouldn't be too difficult, tilt switch and small electric motor needn't
be too much of a weight penalty, my car has (manually) adjustable lights
for towing. Round here there seem to be lots of spotty Kevins with ten
year old Nova/Astra type shitheaps, they get two or three mates in the
back and the knackered rear suspension means they dazzle everybody even
    when on dipped beam.

My point is that it's not just bikes that would benefit from self
levelling beams, although when I carry a pillion I am aware that my
lights are high. It's quite a job on the Tiger to adjust them as you
have to remove the cockpit coaming and I don't carry pillions very often
anyway. It's dead easy to adjust the Kawasaki's lights but I don't even
have a pillion seat on that!

Erm - a forward-facing camera should have no difficulty spotting
number-plates which are at the back of a vehicle.

However, a backward-facing camera would only spot plates at the front.

Incidence of fatality-in-accident rises with the square of the square
    of speed.

An increase in speed of 33% more than triples the risk of fatality if
    there is an accident.

No, but any speed that allows you to brake to walking pace by the
moment of impact is a good speed.

Drive according to the amount of road you can see to be clear...

Err I think you're missing several fairly obvious points here. The
first two that come to mind are:

    1. Roads are not flat. How does your idea cope with hills?

    2. A tilt switch is subject to the same forces as the area of the bike
to which it's attached, so unless it's gyroscopically-stabilised, it
    just ain't gonna work.
