I had a lovely drag race (in the car) with a Mini Cooper S on the way
    back. Those things are *rubbish*!

I hate to admit it Des but you are a lucky ****.

I really do like Paris, hopefully SWMBO and I will get a city break in
there this year, it's been far too long.

Plenty of snow here (still on the ground) but it is finally going - forecast
today for 15C, so with the bright blue clear skies, that's barbecue weather

Heh, I don't think I'd like to live in Paris, but I do love it as a
    break destination.

I am a country boy at heart, and rural Oxfordshire suits me just fine.
My line of work takes me into quite a few upmarket abodes in central
    London.

The test I always apply is: would I swap this place for my house.

The answer to date has always been a resounding "no".

I do like Paris though, very much.

Oddly, so did I. Powder blue one, down the A413 towards the A40.
Neither of us were taking it seriously though.

Used the trip to track down my first RBR landmark of the year (10
    points, only 1990 to go).

Oh, there was also a F355 spider on the Westway that was an accident
looking for a location. Playing silly beggars with a BMW 5 series on
the approach to the northern roundabout - Ferrari wanted to go into
lane 2, Beemer into Lane 1, but neither would back off; Beemer had to
in the ends, then shot off down the ramp after the Ferrari.

Glad to see the back of them, though the 355 did sound glorious away
    from the lights.

It's been shite here for most of the day. It started off okayish and then
    went downhill from there.

It's even started to snow now.

Bright and sunny for most of the weekend down here, although it turned
a bit showery later this afternoon. But not bad, all in all.

Paris has changed. Sure, all places change, but my first visit here was
forty years ago, and the Paris I see now no longer fills me with glee
just to be here. Plus, of course, there's the omnipresent undercurrent
of aggression that is a permanent fact of life here. Bump into someone
in the street or in the métro and the 'pardon..' of a few decades ago,
is no longer sufficient to prevent the sullen 'watch where you're going,
you white bastard!' that is snarled in your direction. Respond, and
you'll get a knife in the ribs. Like the guy who was getting onto the
métro a few weeks ago. The doors opened a fraction of a second before
the car came to a halt, and I was holding onto the vertical bar next to
the doors. I couldn't let go, as the car was still moving, but I was
preventing a bloke who wanted to get on. 'let go of that thing, ya
****!' were his words (in French, of course). And as for waiting until
people get off the car before getting on ... no one adheres to this
simple rule of politeness. They swarm onto the car like stampeding
wildebeest and if you're unfortunate enough to _not_ be able to get to
the door before the train stops during rush hour, you can forget about
getting off until the next stop. If I'm getting on, and a woman's on
the platform next to me, I'll open the door and then stand back and let
her on first. Almost every time I do so, some **** who's been standing
behind us, will shoulder her or me (or both) out of the way, and 'do the
    wildebeest' I mentioned above.

I now consider it not a question of 'if I get attacked', but of 'when I
    am attacked'.

This is why the frequent claims of some of the idiots on UKRM that the
world is some sort of sweet, 'empowering' place, where technical
progress is matched by an almost divinely-ordained spiritual and moral
evolution of man, make me laugh until I'm hoarse. Things _are_ getting
worse, and closing one's eyes to them isn't going to help. It's usually
low-level 'incivilité', but there's always the simmering violence that's
under the surface. Sit in the métro at any time of the day or night,
and glance at the sheer _rage_ that's in most peoples' faces around you.

Every time I've been the subject of physical or verbal aggression, it's
been a black or Arab. Every time SO gets asked for a blowjob whilst
out, it's an Arab. But I know of people who've had similar experiences
with white blokes, so it's not race-related and even if it were, I think
the disadvantaged socio-economic stratum in which these people are
forced to live, is to blame for this 'frustration' that spills over into
anger. That, and the incessant feminisation of society.

So my observations would seem to confirm my long-held theory that the
huge, overwhelming majority of crime is economically motivated. France
has been getting progressively more capitalist, more 'individualistic'
for the past thirteen years, and our present Monarch looks set to put in
place the conditions necessary to see this simmering pot, boil over. Of
course, the Right has only one solution when faced with the increase in
criminality that its own policies have created: repression. More
police, harsher sentences, longer periods of time before parole. You
can only keep the lid screwed down on a pressure cooker for so long,
    before it explodes.

I don't want to be here when it does.

So keep France as a quaint holiday destination. Just don't consider
living here. At least not until we have a new 'Tonton'.
