One of the cops who pulled me over wanted to give me a ticket for the can,
but she left the other copper to do the paperwork.

It turned out that he was a biker as well, and let me off with "a good
    bollocking", but it was close.

Did he remove the illegal item or continue to reoffend?

The "good bollocking" in question turned out to be, "That's a very loud can,
so just take it easy, OK? Also you were going a bit quickly when I first
saw you and you shouldn't use lane 1 to overtake, even if the motorway is
    busy. Right, on your way."

Given that my black visor and balding front tyre weren't mentioned and the
copper noticed I didn't have a tax disc, but took my word for it that it was
at home (it was) I think I got to meet a very nice policeman indeed.

last time I looked at my trafer rules (that came with my plates back
in nov 01) thre was a size restriction on bikes something like a
number on a bike les than 250cc cannot be transfered to a car. So you
could transfer to a bigger bike and then transfer again to car. All
car reg's can go to bikes.

IIRC this isnt/wasnt on the website but is on the rules booklet you
get when you buy a plate. I dont think you get the booklet otherwise.

Of course this incurs extra charges and then there is the fact than
both the donr and recipient vehicles have to be taxed, mot'sd and
insured before you can tranfer so they really make you pay.

However as I say I have'nt looked at the rules for a couple of years.

I've met good ones like that as well. I got stopped in Aldgate for a
dirty number plate, he went round my bike pointed out that my front tyre
was completely bald (it was) and I wasn't displaying tax. After a chat
about his TL1000 and a colleague's ZZR600 he let me go with a warning to
get the tyre fixed, which I duly did :)

  7. I got stopped for can & plate on the way to work one foggy cold
winters morning on the M25. And it wasnt anything to do with the way I
was riding cos this particular morning the weather & traffic were
especially iffy so I was actually taking it pretty steady. Still, I
got rectification notices and fines for the small plate (5x7) and non
BS end can (Micron). I think the fines were about 25 quid each. This
was about 7 years ago now. A few months after this I changed bikes and
where I worked so went back to a small plate and I've been riding with
one every day since with no problems but have stuck to standard
    zorsts.
