Cancelling insurance?

Rang up Bennetts, to cancel the insurance on the bike. The woman wiffled
on at high speed about sending them a letter along with the certificate to
say why I'm cancelling it - and that as it's due for renewal in october
(which is quite odd, as I bought my first bike in august and thus got
insurance then) I'd be eligible to pay 90% of something (she mumbled that
bit). I assume she meant 90% of the remaining payments. When asked how
much that would be, she couldn't tell me as they'll have to notify Amber
finance (the ones who my direct debit is with for them) before they can
    get the amount back.

    WTF can't it be simple?

Just keep the unused months in an airtight box until you need them.

You want to be careful with that.
My mate Alf Schrodinger did that but when he opened the box his Kat
    wasn't insured any more.

What about just before he opened it?

Be incredibly wary and assertive with them. Mostly amke sure you
cancel any direct bdebits with your nbank immediately. Last year I
moved to Auntie Carol, told them so but Amber continued to take money
from my account. Stopped this but they still owe me sixty quid which
I am having a real job recovering.

Bit premature cancelling the insurance, ain't it? Could be October before
he gets around to collect it.

From my experience when you cancel insurance you lose most of your
premium including I suspect in your case all the money you are yet to
    pay.

An alternative which works nicely is to change bike to a 50cc step
through third party only and that way you get lots of money back and
probably don't have to make your remaining payments.

If you don't have a 50, make one up^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h^h borrow
    one.

You can't make one up. The insurance companies have a database of
registered vehicles. Dunno if they have access to the names of the
    keepers though.

You could make one up. Even if they have access to the DVLA database it
takes a while to register a change of keeper. Still counts as fraud though.

You phone up the insurance broker and give them a registration number.
They tell you instantly what vehicle it is.
So you can't make up a number.
You could look for a C50 and use its registration number.

Or give them a 'Cherished' reg number and say it will be transferred.
