NOt a bad price for a loopy, although the V7 Special isn't as desirable
as the 850GT, being 750cc and 4 speed, and only TLS front brake not 4LS.

An 850GT in reasonable nick is a 10 grand bike.

    yup. umm.. '69 or '70 to '73 I think.
Heh. But it's no good worrying about that if you never plan to sell it!

Which I don't. I just buy enough spares to build another....

Fair enough. A popular strategy with cars as well. I knew someone with a
Kombi-mine in their back yard. A bloke around the corner from my family's
home has 5 Morris Minors, including one planted in the front garden.

Does anyone want to guess: how old does a bike have to be before you can
make one out of parts cheaper than you can buy one complete?

    doesn't work on just age.

has to be an unwanted bike, and has to share a lot of parts with others,
so there's nothing that's unique to that bike.

Because if it's wanted, then parts are expensive - try buying Vinnie
bits! - and if there are unique parts, they are always the ones that
    break.

Mind you, most of Phil's Bantam collection was amassed at the time you
could buy a Bantam for $20 and get another one thrown in for spares, but
these days Bantams are selling at $2000!

MIght manage to find enough dead drum brake SR250s to build one for less
than a going one costs, but that's about it...
