Well I just moved to Canberra,

After having my NSW Riders Learners since October 2003, went to the Dickson
Motor Registry to convert my car and motorbike licence to a canberra one,
BANG. Sorry we can't give you your riders licence here because you have not
done pre-learner training (I lived in an undeclared area of NSW so I only
had to do the knowledge test,, which ended up costing about $50, so thats
    down the drain).

Now I read on the net that it costs $150 to do the pre learner training to
get my L's here in Canberra. that seems VERY expensive...

There is no purpose to this post I just dont like the system.

Whereas for my Car P's it was fine, completely free for me to convert and I
just take it from where i left off.
    Hmmm

It's a bummer, but in the long run, that training
will save your life. Look at it that way ! ;)

If it's some bullshit 3 hour course unstead of a
realistic 2 day course, then I would be bitchin.

You've been riding for 3 whole months and you _already_ think you've had too
    much rider training?

Now I read on the net that it costs $150 to do the pre learner
My son did pre-learner training at the HART facilities in Melbourne in
December and it cost $215 for a two-day course (they supplied the bike,
helmet, protective clothing, meals and refreshments) at the end of which
he was issued a learner's permit if he passed the tests (he did) ...

When I moved to Canberra 12 years ago (gosh how the time flies when your
having fun *bullshit*) I was on my NSW P's at the time, which the ACT didn't
have the equivelent of so I was bumped up to a full licence. Oh darn.
Seeing as you have only been riding three months the course will be very
good for you to do, because depending on where you are moving here from the
ACT may have more lax power to weight learner bike laws, so your eyes might
get bigger than your stomach, so to speak... The course is a full 2 days
over the weekend and very worthwhile for such a novice rider as yourself.

Even though it sucks you have to drop another $150, it will be money WELL
spent, you don't have to worry about that. And trust me, you need all the
skill you can get riding in this town!!!

They're lenient bastards when it comes to car licences.

I finally got mine after 10 years full time riding and did my lessons and test
in an auto. Got to licence issuing time and they realised that I had a bike licence
as well. As you can't have both an auto and a manual licence in one, they just
gave me a manual car licence to keep it all nice, even though I wasn't legally tested
    to drive one.

Of course not. Bad luck on your part; you'll know better next time :)
Hmmm... too late to go back to NSW to get your bike licence I suppose?

Same deal with organ donation in NSW actually. You can tick
the "All" box, or you can choose from a list of assorted
organs and tick them off individually.

If you tick them all, the 'puter interprets that to mean
'All' and prints same on your license. If you want to say
"everything on this list, but nothing else", you can't do
it. Need to pick one arbitary organ to leave off the list.

In other news, GRO (Girls Ride Out) is having an organ
donation run somewhere in Sydney about a month from now.
    I wanna go on the ride, but I'm a little worried - I can't
think of any organ that I'm actually prepared to donate
    on the day :-(

A donation means you give it away and don't get it back.

Absolutly agree, the roads around Canberra are in fantastic condition and
are amongst the best maintained in Australia, scenery is pretty good in
parts and there are some local loops that are a lot of fun. But what I was
really reffering to was Canberra DRIVERS!!! As any motorbike rider will
attest you need eyes in the back of your head and concentration that never
lapses lest some dickhead cager merges into your lane while yacking on the
phone and sipping their latte. In the ACT it seems like every moron driver
thinks they are the only person left alive in the world and they drive
accordingly. I swear they are worse than Queensland drivers and that is
    really saying something! ;-)

Actually been hearing a lot of good things about Tassie, me and a buncha
mates are looking at going down early next year for a run.
