    That's different and you well know it! He uses it 'cos he's crap. Using
    it to go faster is another kettle altogether! :)

    That's a little bit negative!

    There are basic things which help: brakes that work, decent lights and
    stuff but they're all pretty trivial. The one thing which makes a
    significant difference - and far more so than in a car - is you. Nothing
    on the bike is going to help you if some dozy bugger runs into you so what
    you have to do is make sure that doesn't happen.

    Since you've been riding around on a scooter for a while you've probably
    had the opportunity to make an assessment of your fellow road users'
    abilities. Depressing, isn't it? :)

    Get some advanced training. There are plenty of options available.
