Can I get points off my licence in another state?

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Stephen Calder, Jul 6, 2004.

  1. I'm licensed and registered in NSW. If I'm riding in QLD and booked,
they can only fine me, not take demerit points, is that right?

If you get booked in NSW, Qld, Vic, South Aus, Tassie, etc you lose
    points, and coin

If you have a Tassie license or get booked in Tassie then they do not
    transfer points

However, if you live in Sydney with a Tassie license they (NSW RTA)
will still total up your NSW points and if you hit the limit you will
not be able to ride in NSW

Nope. If your "home" state has a points system and you get booked in
another state, you pay the fine to the other state and your home state
takes the points off your license.

Of course, if you're from the NT, where they don't have points, and you get
booked in NSW/Qld/Vic etc, they can only fine you. How do you take points
off a license that doesn't use them?

  11. You know it's illegal to "live" in Sydney with a Tassie license, right?

  13. On 7/7/04 9:02 AM, in article
I didn't know it was possible to "live" in Sydney. What a horrible thought.

Theoretically you're right, and sometimes it happens. If you google up
you'll find plenty of people noting how they've NOT received points
from infractions in other states (including myself)

Although they've also got a bad habit of waiting 6 months and THEN
transferring the points just when you think you've got away with it
    :-(

You are quite correct, I obvciously meant travelling around Australia
and just happening to sleep each night in Sydney.

Obviously we would have a state license if we 'lived' anmywhere for
    more than 3 months.
