Are you thinking of Robert A Heinlein's "Starship Troopers"? After
completing officer training, the newly made officers are offered a set of
bars for their uniform. Rico takes on a set with a checkered histroy,
which he then discovers used to belong to his revered, blind teacher.

**** nose. The trouble with this creeping dementia stuff is that you
really don't have a clue but you know it is there somewhere. Weird it
    is.

Sounds familiar. And I might easily have talked myself into forgetting
it as a matter of principle because I got very pissed off with Heinlein
for his pathetic attempts to put piss poor sex into mainstream SF.

  5. I came across a Belgian (or Dutch; I unremember) GW club run in Wales
once. The Doctor & I were on whatever bike I had at the time.

We finally got to the head of the queue of cars to find what was holding
    them up. Bloody motorcycles.

They even had *caravans* queueing behind them, ffxake.

Dodger is the only person I've met - bar my neighbour - who rides a Wing
at anything over one third throttle.

  6. Was he blind? My memory is slightly fuzzy about it, but I didn't
    think he was blind...

It's not a question of dare. It would just be impolite

Well, no. You see, I'm asking you a question. One which you seem to be
    curiously reluctant to answer.

I made a small jokette, one that for pretty much anyone else in the
froup would have generated a "Heh", or a "FOYRNB".

With you it produced a cryptic comment suggesting that I had
misunderstood a word. I'd just like to know which one, that's all.

Depends which teacher you're talking about. But actually I think you're
right: it was the high-school teacher that was blind, not the one at OCS.

No it isn't. It is garbage that would never have seen the light of day
but for the close connection between insanity/nepotism/impotence and the
qualifications needed to sit on the Canadian[1] Slush Fund for Media
    Development.

[1] I assume SP is Canadian.

    You're wrong there. It's American.

Thank **** for that, normal service is resumed. I was beginning to
worry what with all you lot agreeing with me so much lately.

In that case I withdraw my accusation about the Canadians.

No actually I don't. it still stands.

SP is nothing more than cheap merkin tat aimed, in a similarly
exploitative fashion as beavis and butthead, at the lavatorial mindset
of yer ten year old merkin male boy child.
