Can I build a nice Harley Kit Bike for about $13,000?

It seems to me, Keith, that it's a combination of "I'm a better
rider than you" and My type of bike is better than yours".
Neither of which says much about their mental approach to
    riding.

And you will notice that this is all focused on speed, as though
that is the final decider of riding skill. But the final decider
of riding skill is, of course, survival and there's a damn sight
more to that than the ability to ride at speed..

So, children, please argue in the playground. The grown-ups want
    to talk.

  2. Well that and for some reason the carats didn't show...that
    was someone elses comment.
I know...guess I was being ot obtuse in saying that.
Like I said...all the chrome and power in the world wont do
a damn thing if you can't ride and the bike wont handle.
When I say "Wont Handle" I mean it wont handle when ridden
    like some of us do.

Oh, you mean like "badly"? <GD&R>

I guess I'm probably the only one here who can truthfully say I'm so
skillful as to be completely free of any risk of crashing but that
might also be because I don't ride anymore?

So, whatarya tryin' to say man, that you rode your bike an average of
3500 miles a year? Damn I rode further than that while I was on
vacation. So the **** what! Or were you implyin' that you never did any
maintenance on your bike, ever? Or was it that having a bike that
doesn't leak "ANY" fluids makes you some sort of hero? My bike don't
leak so shit that! Exactly what most bikes are you referring too? Please
make it clear when your makin' a fuckin' statement so us fuckin' little
fuckin' people fuckin' can underfuckinstand what the **** it is you're
fuckin' tryin' to fuckin' say. Got it? Some people?

Ohhhh wait a minute, I got it. You're saying your bike is so reliable
because for the most part you don't ride it much.

Goddamn you really never put a fuel filter on your bike until it just
plain old failed. What a smutz!

  5. That would be thanks to the PREVIOUS owners. I bought it
with 67,000 it was MY only means of transport...living 2
miles from work. Well GEE...maybe you are full of shit
    sherlock.

Actually smegma breath it was fuel of "Crud". Picked up a
fuel filter from a parts plus store until I could find a
dealership...that was a nice 800 mile ride to the
dealership. It's FUN to hand your filter to the parts help
and she says "I've never seen one that large". I get that a
    lot.

The wife has a Jimmy and a van. My rat truck hasn't been
started since....October MAYBE. The nearest next town over
is 34 miles...nope don't ride much at all. Only when there
    isn't ice on the road.
By the way Rog...wipe the spittle off your monitor. Damn
moco fanatics, just as stupid as al-qida jerks.

8^) sonnyjim when you can get a GL1000 to keep up
with a speed 4 on a twisty road come talk to me.
When you can ride US89 at the posted speed limit
(70mph) and not scrape then you can say I don't
ride. When you can knock out 1000mile days then
get up before the sun after a 2 hour nap and start
to party...then talk your trash. Oh and junior
read the sig line...that's what I think of you.

    Until then, just FETCH!

I had a GL1000 back in 76. Fine bike for its day. Utterly bulletproof.
OTOH you best never take a hand off the bars on a trailing throttle unless
you enjoy a tankslapper and you best corner sedately unless you like sparks.
Worked great on the superslabs but sucked on the Blue Ridge. Finally swapped
it for a BMW so I could keep BSAs and Triumphs (Remember them?) in sight.
BMWs weren't as reliable but were easy to fix and could lean farther and
thus corner faster. Imagine a 260 pound teddy bear hanging off a Gold Wing
like it was a riceracer trying to negotiate a 70MPH corner at 40.

  11. Mine is a 79' no tank slappers for me. Corner
sedately? Please define, because I've been up
Windy Ridge, HighBridge road, US89, MT200,
OR19(runs through Williamette national forest) and
a few others that are fun. Mostly riding my pace,
my pace is/was far faster than posted. Scrapes?
Yes occasionally but not that often, usually it
was really sharp corners taken at to high a speed
    that caused it.
Really? I keep NEW Trumps in site...granted on the
straights I'm going to barely keep up with a three
legged jackass. 8^\ But it's fast enough for
me...hell it will out handle an original CBX.

Whether you realize it or not, your posts are literally dripping with
envy. It'd be easier to just say, "I'd like to ride a nicer bike, if I
could afford or justify it, but I can't so I'll stick with the best I
can get for under a grand."

Don't think I'm a Harley snob, I've owned far more Japanese and European
bikes. And I respect anyone who rides. But for some reason, the guys I
see on 20+ year-old Wings won't even look me in the eye. It's like
they're embarrassed or something. I sometimes wonder if they make
themselves feel better by boasting on the Internet.

  15. Envy? No, not really. A newer bike would be nice
but I'd rather ride something I enjoy and there
aren't many bikes that make me smile when I sit on
them. My GL1000 does as do Ural Patrols and most
standard style bikes. The sport bikes and cruisers
are nice but not my cup of meat.
That's weird...that they wont look you in the eye
I mean. I'm damn proud of my old bike. It's better
than owning a CBX... I just prefer my old wing.

Not whn I'm dealing with bigots and
    assholes...then I'm the most non-humble asshole
    you'll ever get stomped by.
No, what they are is embarassed at having acted
like assholes in the past towards owners of
japanese motorcycles and now own one.
Not I. I'm but I am damn proud of a damn fine
motorcycle that doesn't require lifting a finger
to get it to perform to the best of it's design.
Sportbikes are just like that...if you want to
ride and not wrench but still get "performance"
you buy it already done. Is that so hard to
    understand?

WHEN my carbs are not rebuildable I'll be
converting my GL1000 to fuel injection. I'll
probably be grafting on a newer front end when
GL/CBX parts aren't available in the salvage yards
    anymore.
