I have recently got a hold of a American imported Suzuki GS650GT
It has No Reg plate so I have to fill in shit load of forms Blaa Blaa Blaa,
    Well here is my prob
My VIN is not 30,000 digits long as it should be it is about 12 long and 3
    of them are letters.

No sign of any tampering and the sticker on the front says the same as the
    engine and frame ?

So it aint dodgy but why so short?

Do 1980 American bikes have short VINs or was the Jap a Dyslexic in need of
    a fag break.

Any response to this post will be very appreciated

Sounds like you are talking bollocks. Your VIN willhave a few letters and
some numbers. 12 digits sound about right.

12 or 13 digits and numbers is about right.

Fill out a new Vehicle Reg Doc. (V-something) and post it with the HONEST
    numbers on your bike.

You`ll either get a reply confirming these particulars are correct OR in one
instance in my case "The Frame # does not match the vehicle Reg plate.

In my case (it may not work for all) they sent round a vehicle inspectorate
bodd with a note pad....he took details and gave information about ways to
get the vehicle registered if there were any discrepsency.

It turned out that the frame and engine # were mis-matched and the reg was
    completely different.

Two weeks later I recieved a new V-5 with all details correct and the fee?
    Nothing!Nought Nada.

I knew this was`nt a high value stolen Blade or R1.....It was my rebuilt C90
    ;-)

But it`s nice to have an honest bike......

    So...Your call....

Declare all and if bought in good faith even if mis-matches occur it`ll be
sorted....or it`ll be stolen and a bunch of "greasers" ;-) will be round to
bugger the goat and eat small children alive! :))))

Apart from which you are`nt doing anything illegal until you register the
bike in your name.....for which you need a v-5 and to declare you are the
    owner.....er...full..cycle again.

I think that in ye olden dayes VIN formats weren't standardised. My
first ever bike, a bitsa Yamaha DT (or maybe CT) of 70's origin has a
    9-character frame number.

  5. Try the Suzuki Owners Club.

They should be accredited with the DVLA to sort these things out.
