    The spending time outdoors type.

I've been invited up to Scotland for a few days at the weekend for a
spot of camping and drinking. Now, I've just realised that despite
doing a lot of outdoorsey stuff, I've never actually done any proper
    camping.

So I haven't a clue what to take bar clothes and a tent[1].

Can anyone give me a list of essentials like cooking stuff etc?

[1] Some would say that and a VISA card is all you need, I guess.

  2. This is the sort of stuff I take - you may not need all of it.

    Sleeping bag
Sleeping mat or an airbed. Depends on how hard/stony
the ground is going to be.
    Pillow (if you want)
    Wash kit and towel
Toilet paper - some campsites don't provide it, or soap.
    Torch
Something to carry water in - could just be an old
    coke bottle.
    Small table
    Folding chair
String for use as a washing line - useful for drying
    towels.

Cooking depends on what you want to do. Anywhere
from none at all, throught tea/coffee or breakfast to
all meals. We normally have a cooked breakfast, then
    eat in pubs etc.

You would be looking at stove, cooking pan(s), kettle,
plate, cutlery, tin opener, corkscrew etc.
Washing up stuff - w/u liquid, tea towel, pan scrubber.

  4. Camping? In Scotland?

    *SHUDDER*
Forget it. Eat in pubs. But most of the food in Scotland is shite
anyway. When it's good, it's very good indeed, mind.
    It's a good POV

We are just about to embark on a camping siege of Denmark and number one
priority for us has to be how to fit it all on the 'bike so think small and
compact instead of luxury, and make sure you have a good local pub handy.

If you're in Copenhagen at the end of the month ask the locals about the
big bike meet that goes off out there. Also if you're not a veggie I'd
happily recommend a steak and the brewed on-site beer at the Hereford
Beefstouw on Vesterbrogade, you can sit and eat whilst the locals
wheelie up and down the road outside on their fireblades.

  12. If you're going to be doing more of it get yourself a Coleman petrol stove.
They're small, have a tough plastic carry case and run on the same unleaded
as your bike (depending on your bike of course) so you don't have to carry
extra fuel. And they boil water quicker than a gas stove. And they smell
    nicer.

Tent, sleeping bag, shiny silver mattress pad thing that folds up very
small, towel, mozzie stuff, small hiking stove, cup, coffee pot (and
coffee), water bottle (500ml Vittel thing), toothbrush, alcohol.

    Works for me.

The important thing is you told everyone about it, thereby saving us a lot
of stress and enrichening our evening by giving us something so moving to
    read.

This is me, sharing the wealth.

Sounds good, however we will be going at the start of July, and will ride
over to Aarhus and Odense to see local friends, we will give CH and the
Devil island a miss this year and try and concentrate around Morso and North
West Jutland, at least I can partly understand the local dialect but I
really I struggle to understand people from Copenhagen even though I live
with one, and yes she is a veggie but that is not going to stop me one bit.

Fitting 14 days worth of kit on a Daytona will be fun though...

But most of all, make sure you don't overload your bike & turn it into a
    wobbling nightmare.

Table and chair FFS. Scotland has an awful lot of ground to sit on and
it also doubles as a makeshift table.
