Tis nice around there, at least as far up as Oliva. Gandia's a total
    shithole though.

noted. We're actually the other side of Denia, towards Javea.

TBH, I'm not intending to do much site-seeing, just chilling out by the
    pool.

I quite enjoy it, as long as it's not pissing down. A bottle of Baileys
for breakfast works wonders when camping in the cold.

I love having a week or so every year as far removed from computers as
possible. It's a good way to get over being in front of them for about
    12 hours every day.

A decent hotel room and waitress-served full English is infinitely
    preferable, however.

you're not wrong, some seriously nice properties there even for 40-50K.

I've finally decided to move house rather than get a new kitchen, so
that might pose a problem in the short term, but buying a 2nd property
overseas is definitely something I'm interested in.

I'm sure you could combine both. Just limit the under-canvas bit to
"sitting in a gazebo knocking back G&Ts and nibbling on smoked salmon while
listening to the cricket". That's camping, technically.

Almost certainly, though will consider Winchmore Hill and Grange Park
    too.

Basically, I like my house, but am totally fed up[1] living on a road
with mixed residential and commercial properties[2], which has a bus
route on it and also serves as a "rat run" from one side of Bush Hill
    Park to the other.

[1] it totally sucks having to drive round the block for 10 minutes to
find a parking space within easy walking distance of your own house.
[2] some of which, despite repeated complaints to the council dump
rubbish in the street in normal black bags expected the bin men to pick
it up, which of course they don't and then it gets kicked all around
    the street.

I'm quite astounded that as little as 10K buys somewhere livable.

I've got this vague "Ukrm does timeshare" thing going through my head.

Apart from the "time to look" issue, I just wonder how much time I'd
really spend there. But if it was big enough, I could have a bunch of
mates there at the same time, and lend it to people and stuff.

And ****, if it's only 50 grand who cares?
I note your use of the word "decided", young darsers, and I'll be
    keeping my mincers on you.

That's more than you'll pay in Wales, mind. And it'll be nearly as wet,
    if you get another tsunami.

    I'm startled at paying just 130 grand for a four-bedroom colonial-style
    house with a decent pool.

    Boy! Another Singapore Sling!

Gaaah that's a killer. T'was like this in Oxford around the ex's place
before we found something less pikey. Especially nice when you get the
    odd parking ticket too.

I'm not sure that always going back to the same place appeals to me,
however cheap. From an investment PoV business projects should have a
better RoR. Bloody long flights out to Thailand and the business class
fares will eat into the saving to be made on the property. Unless you
can spent weeks/months at a stretch a decent hotel will get my vote.

A Group timeshare though...hmmm. Yikes have you seen some of these folk.
Imagine the squalor they live in.
