Seems the dreaded (and much common) cam chain / tensioner issue is slowly but surely becoming more apparent on my recently bought CBR 1000F '93 .... When the bike gets warm enough, it's far more noticable when idling... even when riding around at low revs (anywhere below 3,500) you hear a bit of chattering going on down there but it's barely audible then... just when idling there's definitely some 'foreign' noise going on in there.... although i've been told you only need to worry about it when the thing sounds like a truck up to 50metres away... Few questions for those in the know :- 1) How long is it likely to go like this before getting to a point where it MUST be delt with / replaced? 2) As it wears more / gets louder.. will this at *all* affect the performance of the engine or is it one of those things that simply works or doesn't work? just the noise as it loosens up with wear and no other symptoms? 3) Hoping someone can give me a ballpark figure.. if i were to drop the bike off to Red Wing Honda in Heidelburg (melbourne) and have it done... what would i be up for roughly incl. labour? at a guess i'd say around 0 / 0 tops.. but this may be way off... thanks for any input on this one folks.. appreciate it
