Caliper brake pad cover missing...

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Dave Jennings, Feb 7, 2005.

  1. Buggeration. I've mislaid or, more likely, just thrown away the chrome
cover for my front brake caliper as I was checking the pads etc.

Any idea if these are all similar, ie any caliper cover will do, or
will I have to order a new model-specific one up? Something tells me I
have either put it away "safely" or, more likely, a 2 year old drunken
midget has seen it where I put it, thought it was shiny and taken it
somewhere to re-appear in late December.

Just so I'm being less obtuse than normal, this is the little two-screw
job that when removed shows the pads underneath.

Thanks in advance - a quick reply is appreciated!

It will be specific to the caliper. Note that some calipers apply to
multiple models e.g. the Tokico 6 pots on the ZX6R also fit the ZX9R,
    ZX12R, GSX-R 750 (certain years) and TL1000R
Alternatively, you could just leave it off. I don't bother with them
    on the race bike.

Hah, that means you might have a spare kicking around somewhere :)

Really? I'd just have thought it'd get filled up with crap and
compromise the efficiency of the brakes.

Fine if that's the case, the bugger might just turn up so I'd rather
run it for a while uncovered whilst I try to find the original piece.

I was about to say Ductape.

Then I though, hang on, if i take the covers off it'll make it so much
easier to hose out all the salt and shite that's virtually a daily job ....

You know, I thought that I'd need something there to protect them from
    getting crap all over them.

Oh well, providing this isn't a wind-up and my next post is " How do I
lift my VS 1400 out of the wall it's embedded in 'cos the fucking
brakes didn't work" then that's the solution, temporarily at least.

Nah, wouldn't do that deadpan - too many dangeroos.

*But* you really do need to get the salt flushed out asap.. And *maybe* a
bit more will get sucked through without the covers killing the draft. I'm
serious though. Its so hard to hose em down on a ZX6 I might be a good idea
to whip the covers off for the winter (before the retaining screws corrode
even more) so the pistons can be kept from corroding too - Them sticking is
what'd put you in a wall but TBH you'd be very unlucky of they all stuck at
    the same moment.
