    Agreed - I just thought it was a nice segway (segue?) into how top a
    bloke you are.. :) The few cases I know of have all involved an NG
    charge, but that was warranted in all cases.

    Oh, are we bashing cops here? Right! I'll be in on that! Most
    recent experience about 2 weeks ago, hit by a car on approach to
    the bus lane southbound at the upper end of the Warringah Freeway.
    Cop's (Cnst Wade Imrah, City Central Command (I believe in giving
    credit where credit is due, I also believe that he was probably
    wearing someone else's badge, given how eager he was to show it
    to me)) response? "Wringy what? You're going to have to spell it
    out for me mate, I've got no idea where that is!". I don't quite
    understand how someone can work in an office that is right off the
    end of one of Sydney's most central freeways and genuinely not
    know where it is, but that's the whole point, isn't it.

    It's interesting that the Police Commissioner was on the telly a
    week later saying how stressful The Job (tm) is, and how it's not
    only the day to day work, but also the stress that occurs when a
    complaint is made against an officer. The Commish' has given me an
    idea!

    Pretty much. You did forget the bit about "will go out of their
    way to fabricate evidence to MAKE it the motorcyclists fault" and
    the bit where "you don't have to be riding a bike, or even dressed
    like a motorcyclist at the time, they can smell it on you". Attacked
    by four chinese thugs in Chinatown some five years ago, and guess
    what, they want to press multiple assault charges against me. Rammed
    by a car three years ago twisted into a logically impossible "I hit
    them" context three years ago. It's interesting how one gets a bit
    wary of coppers after a while, isn't it.

    Big might be bitter... me, I'm pretty much resigned. Not so resigned
    that I won't put the pricks through infernal affairs when I can get
    their names mind you!

    GB, if it costs them more in letter writing and administrative costs to
    collect the fine than it costs me to pay the fine, I win! :) :-D :)

    You're assuming that the cop issuing the ticket is the same cop who
    attended the scene of the accident. According to our favourite cop
    mad-biker, when the traffic cops get bored, they can go through the
    accident reports lodged by patrol cops and issue tickets to drivers
    based on the information contained in those police accident reports. I
    found this out because 4 years ago Jo was issued with a neg-driving
    ticket based on the report of the police who attended her postie bike
    prang. I know it wasn't the cops who attended the scene because they
    were no way competent enough to master such a feat. They came looking
    for me several hours after the accident, because they'd forgotten to ask
    if she had a licence at the accident scene. Ok, so it's not plenty of
    stories, but it's one and she'll belt me if I said she's an "older
    rider" but it was definitely not a sportsbike.

    Nothing stopping you from attending a police station and making an
    accident report of your own... if you think it'd advantage you in any
    way, but I really don't see how it could. I'd always advise people not
    to get the police involved, unless there's a matter that they can sort
    out with a badge and a gun that you can't sort out for yourself.

    Err sorry I forgot the motorcycle corollary "If one of the two vehicles
    in an accident is a motorcycle then it gets the blame regardless of the
    available facts"

    Is that better.
    Rightly so by the sound, that sux badly

    Indipendant monitoring of the inspection stations (at cost to the
    inspection stations) would have to be a requirement of this to minimize
    that problem I admit.

    It fits my own prejudice readily enough...

    Unfortunately for the possibility of have a nice little anti
    authoritarian bitch (one of my very favorite pastimes), this is not my
    experience. I was riding my Hornet 600 along New South Head road when
    a jaywalker changed her mind about which side of the road she wanted
    to be on and bolted from the center of the road (having already
    crossed my path once) across 1 and a half lanes directly into my path.

    I, A 40 year old male motorcycle courier collided with a young woman
    barely out of her teens (maybe), an ambulance attends and the young
    woman is taken to the hospital while I walk away (yay jacket, gloves
    and draggin jeans). No tickets. The police were polite and helpful.
    I'm certain it helped that there were a bunch of witnesses who
    confirmed my version.

    It probably also helped that despite the obvious potential for
    prejudice to work against me in this situation, all witnesses (there
    were at least 2) were firmly of the opinion that I was not at fault.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    So are you mentioning this because you think it's UNUSUAL that the coppers
    didn't go out of their way to fabricate guilt on your part?
    Don't feel bad; maybe they were just a bit busy or something......
    I suspect this depends on which side of the line you're standing.
  14. It is a perspective thing innit?
    Went to my work Xmas dinner last night with one of my girlfriends [1]
    and she was complaining that she got asked for ID at a pub last
    weekend. We'd been at a wedding and she was one of the bridesmaids so
    was dressed as such. We'd got split up and she was trying to find me
    as she'd lost her phone. But dressed in a bridesmaids dress I must
    admit she did look like a school leaver. And this was in a music pub
    that we have been in together dozens of times over the last two year.
    She kept getting asked for ID when we were Falls Festival last year,
    even though she had the wristband to state she was overage.
    I'm going to her 30th birthday party today.
    I keep telling her to take it as a compliment. I've searched her
    bedroom but can't find the Dorian Grey picture.
    [1] I'm not trying to brag, it's just the way it is. It's a weird
    world these days.
