Caged Needle Bearing and Axle Care...

  1. isn't that basically kerosene?

I often use WD40 to fill in that task. if the part in question has to be
degreased, I'll spray it down with brak*kleen after the WD40 cleaning. :D

Stoddard's is lighter than kerosene, as light as safety (flashpoint above
140F) will allow. And because it is used or cleaning, it is cleaner than
keosene. That's why it works with charcoal.

Stoddard's is the solvent in WD40. But WD40 works better for removing
adhesive gum because the oil in it keeps the softened gum from sticking.

There is an active internet anti-WD cult ("not a lubricant") but my 35
years of experience puts a can in each car, in the boat, in the shop
    and in the house.

My cleaning method: Wash the part with whatever you have (Gunk SC in
stoddards if you have it), rinse in hottest water, drain on paper towel,
spray with WD so water is displaced and excess soaked by towel. Or wipe
and air-dry while still hot from water if no oil wanted.

You may be a redneck if you've used WD40 as a room freshener! (I have)

My compliments to the "caged bearing whines" cleverist.

  3. Malarkey. He was a minimum wage rentacop who is trained in supporting
the concept of public safety by giving the appearance that everything
    is under control.

That's all security is. You don't think the dude asking you for some
ID and holding up the line is actually capable of defending against
    those with nefarious intent?

  4. Not that the professionals are any better. I went across the border
this week to refill a prescription. Walking back at the port of entry,
I handed over my US passport to the ICE agent. He actually asked me if
I was a US citizen. Doh!

Yah. I've encountered that on the net. WD-40 is not a heavy lubricant
    -- don't lube bearings
with it. I once shredded some bicycle bearings in the lower bracket
    because I was spraying
down the bike w/ WD-40 and it ran into the bearings and disolved the
    grease sufficiently that
most of the grease worked its way out ... as I was riding to school I
    noticed a gravelly sound and
being a dumb kid kept riding (I figured I'd fix it when I got home).

OTOH: WD-40 works great in locks (especially ones which are stuck in the
    weather)

  6. Public relations is all it is. We're just as vulnerable to attack as
pre-9/11. Which is to say we weren't that vulnerable to begin with but
you can always count on human laziness to allow terrorists to score
    from time to time.

Israel prolly has the most experience and best defenses. Do they still
have a problem with terrorism? You betcha!
