I want to kick off a new policy/NCD for the new mota (Aero Cab) so I need to
find a decent broker. In particular I'd like a policy that allows anyone to
drive it occasionally with my permission. Over 30's would be sufficient.

Anyone have a (non business) policy like this.

Perhaps a FOAK could recommend a good broker/company. Please don't suggect
    anything relating to Meerkats.

At the risk of continuing the CIHAGM-argum^h^h^hsub-thread down there
somewhere[1], is this possible? I mean, isn't it something that
*their* insurance would have to have, not yours? Or do you want cover
for other people driving who do not have their own insurance?
Oh, I normally just used confused.com and pick one of the cheapest.

I'm currently with the Post Office and although I've not had any claim
dealings with them, their customer service has been pretty good when
I've had to change various policy details.

[1] Which I've mainly given up on.

    Oi!

That aside, I'm pretty happy with A-Plan (who seem to run a lot of
specialist/classic etc schemes). They're generally very helpful and I
found their prices pretty decent. That said, their renewal on the Golf
was a bit dire but on the other stuff they were pretty OK.

I just used confused.com to find the cheapest quote, then went direct
to the cheapest quote's website to see if it would be any cheaper
    direct.

Also, check for cashback deals - the NotW website is offering upto £45
    cashback for car insurance atm.

Doesn't even need to be a SOC. A moped will do. It's any policy and will
generally count against whatever you buy next.

I used confused.com a month or so in anticipation of renewal and was
rather shocked by the premiums (around a grand at the cheapest end) -
the majority wouldn't even quote due to the number (2) of convictions.

Cheekily, the bloke at Admiral reckons half the bump is because I picked
up another three points a couple of months into the policy and they're
clawing back the perceived risk from the period since then. The swines.

So Direct Line are coming in cheapest by a long way, under 600 quid. Far
    more reasonable.

I _think_ you're saying that you'd use the renewal notice to get the
NCD on a new polidy, despite actually renewing the existing one.

If so, then you're simply finding a different way of defrauding the
    InsCos.

I've found them a good firm to deal with generally. In particular, I
couldn't fault the way they handled a prang I had a few years back.

    don't think that's possible.

Anyway, for me last time round (Feb) Swiftcover.com were by far the
    cheapest.

Er, no. If you want to build up NCD for a car policy, you'll generally
need to do it using a car policy. Most car insurers won't accept bike
NCD in the same way they won't accept NCD from your house contents
    insurance.

Depends on the insurer, big time.

Both my children had no problem using their 1 years no claims from their
    moped for their first car.

I was stunned at the inexpensiveness of swiftcover.com when I was looking
around for FC insurance on the 330Ci ... 175 quid all in :)

Nowt to do with me, it's just the way it is.
Yet others here talk about maintaining two policies so that the NCD
can be used from t'other one in the event of losing the first. So how
many ways would you like it to work?
Could have fooled me. TV ads like 'Admiral Multicar' seem to be full
    of it these days

They've just quoted me 874 quid FC for my Cupra. That's still 20% more
than Directline want for the same.

I shall, of course, be going all Bravestarr with the DL policy, "eyes of
    the hawk" and all that.

If you're on zero NCD for a car but have a goodly bike NCD, Auntie
    Carole will sort you out.
I ended up with Norwich Unavivion through CN with nearly 70% off.

    NFU Mutual.

Only you deal with their staff directly, at the local office that'll
invariably be within spitting distance of where you live.

In other words, no dealing with disinterested call centre droids.

    £25 windscreen excess.

No admin charges for changing a vehicle mid policy.

I cancelled cover on a second car a while back, and they literally divided
up the years premium by 365 and then gave me back every penny I'd lodged
with them up to that point that I'd not actually had the benefit of.

I've had other cars on and off on a second policy - even though it never
runs for more than a few months at a time, I've still accrued 50% NCB on
this, and when I recently got a quote on a van, they agreed to apply the 50%
    to that.

In other words, whilst they're not normally the cheapest (1), there's no
unexpected extras and the customer service is second to none if my local
office are anything to go by.

    (1) I've had a look on confused.com on occasion and they're by no means the
    dearest, either.
