Anyone been this way to Ojai, cutting over from Santa Maria on Ca-166,
then south on CA-33? I'm looking for info on the CA-33 portion. I want
to by-pass Firday night traffic in and around Santa Barbara/Ventura and
33 looks like a good alternative into Ojai. Any advice? I'm kinda in a
hurry as I'm leaving Friday morning.
    Thanks,
    OFG
P.S. Does anoyone know how I could get in to see Guy Webster's Ducati
    museum in Ojai?

It'll be hot in the Central Valley. It was too humid today and made for
miserable riding in the upper 90's.
Everything south of Ventucopa along Hwy 33 is shut down. Used to be a few
open eateries and such, most are closed now. Lack of business or their
owners moved or died. Song Dog Motorcycle Campground Ranch was along 33 as
well. All shut down too by Santa Barbara authorities (licensing, etc.).

You can split pretty well on the slow-downs of 101. Hwy. 33 is pretty far
inland along Hwy 166 from the 101. New Cuyama on 166 will be your last gas
stop before Ojai if you travel 166 > 33. It's a long way between stops.

Hwy. 166 is pretty heavy on CHP patrol too. Hwy. 33 is less patrolled - if
ever. More interesting would be to cut inland from Santa Margarita via 58
and south to 166 and back to 33. Hwy. 58 rarely has CHP patrol on it (and
cell phone coverage is pretty good for some reason out there) and some
people haul along that road for that reason. That would put fuel stops in
Taft of Maricopa before going up the grade to 33. But that will be really
hot so take plenty of water!

Sorry about the late reply - Just now saw the post.

I was on 33 last Wednesday and it is open and in great shape most of the
way. There were two short construction areas with flagmen but there is
no traffic at all and they don't hold you up.

Great roads out there but not much in the way of gas or food so be
    prepared.

    Have fun.

I have not been home in a loooong time. When going from Santa Maria
to Maricopa, between New Cuyama and Maricopa, you hang a right onto
    33. A ways up the road was what we called the 'half way station'. It
was always fun to take noobs there and send the out to the bathroom.

    Is that place still there?
