Trundling on 4 wheels through the cotswolds this morning on the way to
the dirtbike show, doing about 30mph in thick fog, when the back of the
car slid sideways purely due to the camber of the road - & presumably a
lot of black ice. Woke me up it did.

A little further on there were 3 very second-hand looking cars, a few
cops & an ambulance. I'm glad I had the slidey warning before the next
bend. I'm also glad the fog put me off taking the bike - there's no way
I'd have stayed on when I hit that ice.

That ice is dangerous on the road and should be banned.

I popped into work for 1/2 hour this morning... On the way back to the
main road (2 miles) 3 broken cars had appeared at various points, one
was upside-down, one was nose into the hedge, one was tail into the
hedge... You think that excessive speed on icy surfaces could have
    been a factor?

Totally unrelated, on Wed. morning I was returning a car to a
customer, on starting to exit Benson roundabout I hit some diesel and
did a slowmotion 180' spin... Didn't hit anything but a close call...

On the way to work that same day... Going thru Mappledurram a Mercedes
SL500 half pulled out in front of me... The nsf corner of the Festa
made a neat concave swage line along the Mercs o/s rear 1/4, door and
front wing... The driver appologised for not seeing me, she looked as
though she was going to burst into tears when she saw the damage...
There was no damage to the Festa...

    Its been a funny week...

  5. I was off early yesterday saw the ice all over the place but didn't
have any incidents personally. I did have to divert because the A31
was closed beyond Farnham and saw a car upside down in a ditch near
    Winchester.

Speaking to the local garage man this morning - he had to extract one of
Aylesburys who was very firmly wedged in a hedge. I think that made his day.

One of the chaps on a local group ride low-sided due to wet leaves on
the road. The bike slid under an oncoming SUV and caught fire. It took
the fire department quite a while to show up due to no mobile phone
coverage in the remote area. The bike and SUV were a total loss. Both
were Hondas so not much of a loss.

  13. Being sans bike I was in the motah, however, even had a bike been
available I'd not have risked it. There's 7 miles of untreated country
road before I get to a main route that should be treated. Evidence
suggests that either these weren't treated or more likely it was not
    effective enough.
    heh
