Have decided to buy a zzr 250 as a learners bike, probably second hand,
    so...

Any things i should look out for, specific to this bike, in terms of wear?
Any components known to have a relatively short lifespan?

This is the last line of questioning before I go hunting, i've talked to
some ex riders and other motorcycle "home mechanics"...hehe....just seeing
if theres a last minute piece of wisdom out there.

Drop it and you'll realise why learners shouldn't ride plastic bikes.

Well, he's right though. Buy a GPX250 instead, same engine but less
    curvy plastics to ruin :)

Or you could just not drop it ... not all learners drop their bikes ... or
    should be expected too!

You're right; just because 99.8% do it's no reason to take precautions
against you doing the same thing.....

buy a gpx250 and take the fairings off then :)

ps. drop it and you'll realise why learners shouldnt ride without
training wheels and a little front mounted pink wicker basket with a
left bar mounted bell with themselves fully wrapped in cotten wool.

fwiw i slayed my old gpx on the putty road and it not only lived to tell
the tale but it got back home in mostly one piece. They're tough as all
    ****.

It's a great bike and you will love it.

Don't worry about all the rubbish you read here ;-)

Yup! The narrower fairing means that you break footpeg brackets and
    handlebars instead! ;-)

Oh hell, in 8 years of riding around the streets i've dropped my pushbike
(canondale, mostly carbon fiber, my triathlon bike) enough times in the very
best of conditions to know that sometimes, shit just happens.

    Oil, for instance......

I'm taking it as a given that i'll drop my motorbike at least once in the
    first month or so. Hehe.

Actually most of its bloody amusing.
I'm looking for facts, not biased personal opinions, and i'm good at
recognising whats wisdom and whats purest shite....

And because I don't share peoples opinions (re: fairings) doesn't mean i
discount the wisdom of them, if you understand me.

Don't think so negatively. It's not a given. There are plenty of unmarked
bikes around with L and P plates on them. When I started riding I had a
GPX250 for 15 months and 34,000km and it survived that time with only a bent
brake lever, a scratch about the size of a 10cent piece on the fairing and a
    small scratch on the exhaust.

I waited till I graduated to 600cc+ bikes before I began wrecking them.

The only drop ive done thus far is at a service station, after having just ridden 450kms,
leaning over to look at the little oil window in my sump after just having filled the fuel tank up.
I fergot about a little thing called gravity.

  19. Maybe because ZZR 250's have been marketed all round the world?

Don't confuse this with someone selling their Adelaide or wherever bike
    to all round the world.

    cheers
