Buying a new bike (Paging TOG too)

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Cab, Jun 10, 2006.

  1. There are tax implications - at least in NL. On top of the VAT, if I
bought a car/bike outside NL and brought it in to re-register, I'd have
to pay 'BPM' on top. That's effectively "motor vehicle tax". This is on
top of the NL equivilent of road tax.

on a brand spanker car, it's 45% of net list price, on a bike, 20%.

I did, but I'm not sure if that was down to the bike. I owned the 750
for a lot longer than the Thou and I also did substantially more
mileage on it. Hence I was a lot more comfortable riding it and being
aware of how it would behave. I remember one ride out of Stratford I
managed to stay in touch with Champ on his Thou. It was hard work but
I could keep him in sight.

I reckon the handling is pretty much similar for mere mortals and that
also really applies to the power. I reckon Joe Bloggs average could
ride the 750 just as fast as the 1000.

there isn't. trumpet said last year there were no plans to put the
bigger engine into the daytona and were going to concentrate on the
    675.

I glad they do still produce it. I reckon an awful lot of 1000s are
bought purely on a macho basis. I'll be in a position to buy a new
one next year and realistically I should buy the 750. It will still
out-perform me. The only reason for me to buy the 1000 is because
    it's a 1000.

Certainly the German bikers I've spoken to and ridden with have never
mentioned any restriction, and their bikes certainly are not
restricted. Given the very strict TüV rules this almost certainly
means they started out that way.

That's not a bad idea, as it goes. I could just make sure that I have
my UK docs on me and pretend not to speak French. :)

<G> I was waiting for that. I had a bet on myself as to who would reply
first. I lost, as I thought it'd be TOG. :)

Heh, one of our lot tried that on the autostrada, after getting stopped
by the Carabinieri [1] for way too excessive speed (even for Italy). He
tried the shrug, and the 'Mi dispiache, non parlo italiano", to which
the rozzer said, "That's ok, I speak perfect English, ... now .... !"

    Cheers

    Paul.

[1] More 'Military police' than Polizei, and can be quite well
    qualified if officers.
