Apart from the number plate standing out, is everything legal to use
in this country? Tax, test etc?

Is it subject to any import laws etc?

Anything i should know but don't?

And then re-register it at your loval vehicle licensing office. NI bikes
are not on the Swansea computer.

Will I get a mainland number plate? Would it class as being registered
    overseas etc?

Why re-register? The only disadvantage I can see is the NI plate may
give some gyp on a trade-in...

Eh? Would you buy a bike from Wales? Scotland?

In fact, the NI MOT is a bit different from here - it's done at
government MOT centers which are oftem booked-up for months so folk
sometimes take the ferry to Scaotland to get an MOT!

They don't use different number plates in mainland UK, well they do,
    but not that different.

OK, we use a totally different number plate system, so in my eyes it
could be difficult to insure bikes from NI, hence my question. Some
other poster has also said they are not on DVLA, so if you see what I
    mean.....

Yeah. I Know. I'm from there but I live here. No. Insurance is no
problem and I see no problem in not being on the DVLA. Anyone know
    different??

Ah! Didn't know that. (And wasn't the case (many, many) many years ago
when I had an NI reg car.) Appologies for poor advise before...

I brought a 3 year old Gixer Thou over from Belfast a couple of years
ago. The NI reg document will not automatically get you a mainland V5,
Coleraine and Swansea do not link computers. You have to re-register the
bike as a personal import, which means getting an MOT, filling in an
import form and waiting in a queue with the great unwashed for someone
to approve it and give you a tax disc. You are given the option of
keeping the NI plate, or having an age related plate assigned to the
vehicle - I opted for the NI plate just to be different.

Big bikes are cheaper in NI, something to do with the insurance costs
making it difficult for riders over there.

It's really no hassle except the hour at the local office. It's
precisely what I did for my ex Spanish Police Guzzi. Obviously I just
got an age related UK plate rather than the choice of keeping its Spanish
    one.
