But are they reliable?

  1. The new Euro service shop in Sydney, MotoCiclo is also the Sydney
    Enfield dealer.

Dropped in yesterday to pick up some brake pads and spotted a BUllet
with ACT plates. Looked a bit tired, had a fair few miles up, the
    compliance plate said 1997.

Apparently the owner had dropped it in for a service. First one in 5
years. 5 year of regular commuting and some touring... I think he'd
changed the oil a couple of times, but that was all. The timing,
reported the spannerman, was horribly out, and that was obvious by the
    bright blue headers.

The inlet manifold had broken about a year ago, so the carby was waving
about some. When asked if this made it a bit difficult, the owner said
"no, I just got used to riding with the choke on all the time".

Old and slow and heavy, but seemingly hard to kill.

Might I trouble you to tell me why? They run hot and
    turn blue yah?

    yeh

that could also have been caused by the carb being loose and letting in way
    too much
    air and causing lean mixture

Very very blue meaning running way too advanced I believe.

If it's blue on the outside, then I'm arse-u-me'ing
that that must be a result of it being too hot or
    too cold, yeah?

I expect it was running way too lean because of the broken manifold,
despite the choke being used to try and get more fuel in, but I believe
it was also running hot from being too advanced in the timing.

So both would make it run real hot, and blue the pipes. Single walled
headers will blue with normal running on some bike, but these were
    *BLUE*.

Red, with very old fashioned black top opening panniers with external
    frames.

    Seems so.

So I guess all those who are into brutally neglecting motorcycles but
don't want a Guzzi, buy an Enfield!
