After riding for 16years with my dog (2 different dogs) on the tank, today I
was informed by a QLD police officer that the dog was an unrestrained load
and I was charged $150 for the privilege of learning this fact. Then I was
told to organise a lift home for my dog. What a piss-off! And the turkey at
QLD Transport knew stuff all about laws pertaining to this particular
Infringement Notice. Has anyone else had this prob?

yeh i know.. how does the dog balance .. i mean either the dog would have to
be amazing at balancing or u gotta ride really slow and not lean in to
    corners !?

Guy I met one time uses a a towel across the tank for grip
the dog was placed on the tank since being a pup so it's a given thing
    for it.
this was a jack russel though.
I suppose a restraint of some type could be used.
Personally I'd be loathe to put our dog on the bike.

she's a 23kg red cattle dog. she clings on using her claws into 10mm closed
cell foam strapped to the tank. she has never fallen off any of my bikes and
my previous dog only fell off once when I did. Both dogs I have taken trail
riding and they loved it. I'm gunna miss riding with the bitch. :(

I've got a 3 year old ~27kg staffy but I dont think he'd fit (nor stay) on

Does she lie down or sit on her bum ? How easy is it to manoeuvre and see
    over her ?

I know when my dog sits on my lap while driving a car it aint all that easy.

How do you work that out? Those clowns at the Department of Transport
wouldn't know if their undies were on back to front...

Go to court and demand justice. My bet is that the cops will not pursue the
    ticket.

Want me to help out give me a call.

    Horseshit!
Download some of Alan Pennykid's photos and then do a search on "doggles".
Print them out and send them in with a letter to the superintendant of traffic in your area.
Point out that a dog doesn't have to be restrained on a car, ute, truck, train, bus, skateboard etc etc so how
would you know it should be restrained on a bike?

Wouldn't the person riding the bike itself be unrestrained as well? Isn't the dog just like a pillion, except
sitting on the tank. Is there some technicality on where a pillion can sit? Maybe put him behind you? hehe.

Yeah. Take it to court and argue that because the dog maintains it's own
balance, while it may not be secured to the vehicle, it restrains itself
(claws dug into foam on the tank) and therefore there is no charge to answer.

The cops at Phillip island on race weekends haven't said anything to be about
the slab of beer sitting unsecured on my pillion seat between the bottle shop
    and the caravan park.

I thought dogs had to be restrained on the back of utes now? I know that's what my bro in law understands to
be the law in QLD at the moment anyway.
