Hi. Rolo had a problem with his Burgman. I have the same electrical
problem with my bike, so if Rolo sees this text, please can you tell
me how to solve that problem. Thanks.

  7. I remember the excitement of realising that I could send a message to
someone on the other side of the world via FidoNet.. and the
disappointment when I realised that a) I didn't know anyone on the
other side of the world and b) even if I did the chances of them having
a FidoNet address was vanishingly small - about the same size as my
    life at the time.

Didn't stop me dialling into Almac BBS in Scotland though.

Ah I remember it well. The realisation too that, due to the joy of
midnight lines and the like, it typically took 3 days for an e-mail to
make it to the US, and another 3 days for the reply to make it back.

That's if you got the address right and that was an art in itself. And
if you got it wrong it quite often too over 6 days to find that out too.

    Tell the kids of today...
    Blimey, that takes me back.

exactly. I was mainly interested in the discussion echoes rather than
email per se, but I agree, at the time it seemed "amazing". Looks shite
now, even with the old rose-tinteds.
heh - I was "lucky" enough to have a node in my home town in NI.

    too.

in and of itself, Fidonet email addresses weren't too bad.

Now, Fido<->Internet gateway emailing - *that* took some fucking luck.

There was even a Fido/Usenet gateway at one point - I'm not sure it
    /ever/ worked.

  13. There were closer ones but they all sucked bigtime. Almac was well run,
had a massive filebase (with weekly updates) and had a local-rate phone
    number..
