http://www.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,4057,10382732%5E1702,00.html Dunno of many guard rails along Dalrymple Road...Nathan St intersection maybe... Doug Cox. Work to ride, Ride to work... http://toosmoky.d2.net.au
How about near the roundabout at Mt Louisa? Maybe the rail down the middle of Dalrymple Rd between Nathan St and Warrina? Perhaps the cheese cutter down the middle of Woolcock St just after the lights where it changes name? Seems a guy I know droive past it today. Where he's describing sounds like it was outside Key Motors which is a dead straight bit of road. Might not be a single vehicle acco eh? Aaron ZX6R
From all I've heard my best guess is they were turning from Duckworth onto Dalrymple and lost it, sliding into the middle of Dalrymple and hitting the 'guardrail'. Still no idea of the bikes or who they might be. Aaron ZX6R
Must have been the day for it yesterday....... we went for a ride with one of the Brisbane email groups. Mate of ours came along. I was following him through Mt G, came around a corner, there he is trying to pick the bike up off the side of the road... no major damage, he's unhurt, one of the guys with us had his bike fall over while we were righting Lupie's beastie, so we picked it up too... After we regrouped with the rest, we headed up towards Lake Somerset. About 12km from the regroup site there is a tight decreasing radius right hander, we slowed down because there were a couple of cars, a truck and some riders all standing around. As we went through I noticed a rider lying on the side of the road, not moving....... no-one standing around was anywhere near him. As I pulled up beside him I noticed him move slightly (better than lying dead still!) and bleeding from the mouth. So, straight into paramedic rescue mode! No gear except our bare hands, but hey, at least we knew what to do. There's no phone signal out there, but someone had enough sense to try the emerg number which worked. Meanwhile we did what we could - got his helmet off (correctly while maintaining neck and head alignment), made sure he was breathing, assessed his likely injuries, kept talking to him as he slowly came back to consciousness. Not long after that, one of his mates turned up - he'd got worried and come looking for him. He stayed with us, one of our group took off to find the other two friends. It seems from his injuries he'd face-planted pretty heavily - his helmet was trashed (HJC with lift-up chin plate), his chest was bruised, and his right wrist broken. We suspect concussion and maybe a fractured rib or two, but without x-rays and so on I can't be more specific. At least he should pull though OK. About half an hour after we arrived the first cop arrived, and tried to tell us what to do... OK.... then more cops started arriving - we ended up with 5 cars and a bike, and one of the cops was wearing lots of big pips on his shoulders. Eventually an ambulance arrived - one single ambo. About 2 minutes after he arrived, the cops made a roadblock for the CareFlight helicopter. Nearly two hours after we arrived there, we could finally hand him over to the professionals... Close on an hour after that, they finally took off, and the police started to clear the roadblock. So, 3 hours later, we really didn't feel much like continuing our ride, and we headed home. Good points - the cops thanked us for looking after him, the senior chappie even telling us about the possible post-traumatic stuff and to take care, and that he was sorry our ride was over for the day! His mates also thanked us for looking after him. The rider should make a full recovery, which is probably the best point of all. Thanks go also to Lupie for being our go-fer, and the Brisbike boys for helping out by moving our bikes while we were busy, getting his buddies so his mate could stay with us, and getting his bike up and off the side of the road to a safe spot. Also to the Z-owner in the car that stopped and offered us some ice for his broken wrist. Bad points - the fact that we got there, and there were lots of people standing around waiting for someone else to see if he was dead or not. Geez, guys, if he's dead he can't hurt you, but if he's not dead your inaction may kill him! The fact that the cops were considering ticketing him for the number-plate obscuring device he had. The fact that one of our guys who'd been there doing what he could got a ticket on the way home from one of the cops that had been there too... The fact that it happened. He can't remember (and probably never will), but he says he was taking it easy, and his mates all said he was a very cautious rider.
And you can't ask better than that. This is what we woke up to this morning in Townsville. http://townsvillebulletin.news.com.au/ Doug Cox. Work to ride, Ride to work... http://toosmoky.d2.net.au
Don't you just love it when "Top Stories" include "TOWNSVILLE Junior Soccer Association fixtures ran smoothly on Saturday" Moike
Bloody awful news to hear, isn't it? News report here t'other morning - 2 different bike crashes overnight, similar circumstances, riders seriously injured, any witnesses pls call, and so on. I hate hearing it. Really, really hate it. I'm just glad we were there to help this other guy. And I think that's one of the reasons we do the volunteer thing for the bike races. We're off to QR for Aus Supers next weekend. Jules
And this from the Courier Mail: (page 2 top right) "The man was reportedly travelling at high speeds..." (reported by who?) and "Police were first on the scene...." (in a race between Police, a tortoise and a small custard pie)
As I posted today (but which AGAIN has disappeared!); that bloke must be the luckiest bloke in SE Qld that you two happened along. You couldn't hope for a better-equipped pair of bikies to happen by. (Mentally "equipped" at least!) gNat and I are coming out to "The Paperclip" on Saturday so we'll wave accross the fence at you. Cheers .... Clem
We'll be in either the red Medical car, the medical Tarago, or in the med centre. Come in and say g'day if you can, our paramedic boss wants to meet the man that gets up Wootton's nose!!!
Hmm, will have to see if there's a copy of it floating around at work. I supposed they beat the ambos by a substantial amount!!! Patty
Aw gee, Atec! Thanks!! One of those things, I guess, I couldn't have lived with myself if I hadn't done what I could for him.
Well done for stoppin and helping out.. Things may have been deadly if nobody had gone over to him. I am currently trying in vein, to get our club to get everyone to do a First aid course (mine lapsed while back).. Its probably THE BEST $180 you can spend, even just basics, unlike being a paramedic it is just handy to know for your family.. Just stoppin bleeding and taking control of the situation.
On 9/8/04 7:17 AM, in article So much for NANDA!!! Did you take his Hx as well? Cheers Hammo Yes, I am thinking of joining ACORN!!
