for my own reasons I am looking to buy a 2005 Yamaha BT1100 Bulldog

If poss I would like to know if anyone has experience of what modifications
should be made, in particular the exhaust, and also for comfort. I am also
    looking to fit side panniers.

Any help from those that know, much appreciated

I didn't think they actually sold any of this model in the UK. Seen a
    few over here, though.

They had it in the UK brochures.
Whether they actually took money for one is possibly a different matter.

Why buy a bike that has to be modified, FFS? Why not find one that
suits your requirements without fucking about with it, or one with
which you are familiar and know which mods to make?

If you insist on buying a new bike that you don't know and fear may be
uncomfortable, the reasons for your anticipated mods would be useful -
the exhaust, for example: what do you want ... high level, underseat,
    race, quiet, freeflow, SuperfuckingTrapp, what?

I can't really see why anyone would want to modify a bandit, either.

You can get as much power from a Bandit 1200 by fitting an aftermarket
road legal can, like a Micron, rather than a race can.

    That's still a modification.

I was more specifically raising the issue of a certain person having
added a race (or, if you prefer 'aftermarket') can to a certain
motorcycle which he claims he couldn't see why anyone would want to
    modify...

I'm yet to see a Bandit 1200 with a road legal can and 129bhp at the
    rear wheel.

Why shouldn't it be possible? ZX10s make more than 140bhp and they have
legal cans, as do GSXR1000 and any number of modern sports bikes. Just
because a bike has a loud can doesn't mean it's any more powerful.

That was a pre-emptive move so that if I crashed, I'd not damage the
    stock can. :p

Pity the stock can was already scratched, really...

  17. They don't plan to - it's forced on them when they crash it.

Would Sir care to list that mods that I carried out to my Bandit?

    I'll start Sir off:

Kevlar Scorpion can (good for 10bhp and making peds aware)
Pulled connection to ignition advance restrictor
    Rear sprocket +2 teeth
Utilised to heavily modify side of TNT Fiesta van

If Sir can think of anything else ...
