Given that people get paid different amounts in different countries I
think it's completely legitimate for companies to tariff the same goods
at different prices; it's called market pricing.

However, this isn't the case here; it's simply called 'theft'. The
record companies don't see any royalties from the Russian operation
    IIRC.

  2. Shit, you should have posted them to yourself. I got a set of suspendy
forks off ebay last year and didn't pay a penny in duty. Maybe they
weren't liable for duty anyway, being used, but it's a lottery you often
    win.

I don't disagree however we should have the choice to shop anywhere we want
    and pay any appropriate carriage.
If you read more you will find the royalties are sitting with the Ruskie
licencing body. The Labels decided not to collect it. I imagine they do for
    local radio stations etc. though.

I heard a tale on the radio not too long ago, which I thought I'd
relate as best I can - it's semi-appropriate to this thread.

Joe Brown, the Cockney musician, once did some guitar playing for none
other than the great Johnny Cash. A few months later, he got a letter
from the local Customs office, telling him there was a parcel for him
on hold until he paid the duty owing on it.

Joe went down to the Customs office, and opened the parcel to find a
pair of hand-made cowboy boots in finest leather, courtesy of Mr. J.
Cash. The duty owed on them was IIRC about £20, which in the
mid-Sixties was more than Joe Brown had. Naturally, the Customs
official was adamant the duty had to be paid, or Joe couldn't have the
    boots.

Said Customs bod suggested Joe try the boots on; maybe he'd convince
him the money was worth finding? Walk around in them, feel the
quality he said. Joe, of course, thought the Customs man was being an
arse of the highest order - that was just rubbing his face in it,
wasn't it? Still, he put his feet into the boots, which fit like
they'd been made for him, as comfortable as old slippers.

Of course, the boots had to go back in the box; Joe didn't have a
chance at the time of finding the money he needed to release the
boots. Then the Customs man winked at him, and said something along
the lines of "Right then - boots, worn. Value two quid, duty payable
half a crown, that okay with you?" Needless to say Joe got the boots.

  7. My point, such as it is, is that the package was unopened and could have
contained brand new ones for all they knew. A bit risky though, but I've
no doubt plenty of people do it. Getting stuff send USPS seems the best
way for lack of interference iyswim.
