OIC the BB is this weekend. Darnit I'm heading back to Norn Iron. 'Kin good
    weather too.

What's it like then. Why is it £50 to get in (1). Can you go as a day
    visitor (for less) (2).

IIRC Stritchy and YTC are regular visitors. Surprised mention of it hasn't
    reached UKRM.

Enjoyed it the last time I went in 2004. Proved to be a good distraction
from stuff I was coping with at the time. Depends on whether you like the
bands that are on, whether you're going to spend several days off your tits
in the dance tent, etc. The web site gives you a pretty good idea at what
    goes on.
Cos people are willing to pay that much for it.
    No.

    Hope that helps!

As it happens, I'm off there now myself. Once I've packed.)

  4. Sounds ideal. Dance tent notwithstanding, who could pass up a chance to
    see the Quo?
    Exactly.
Have a good time. I'd have gone myself but I need to be straight for
    Monday.

  7. Not been B4, but was excellent and xceeded all expectations.
Worth it just to see Quo and Alex Harvey 'in the flesh'

Friends obtained pit passes for us - which made things even better.
As for the rocket bike and the jet car, well !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you get the presence there of wild-eyed out-and-out loonies who bring

    *random*

Strangely enough my dad did his national service at the same time as Alex
Harvey in the mid 50s and can clearly remember him playing in a jazz band.

The reason I like alltunes (mp3 as was) is that when someone reminds me of
something like this I can just download it without thinking twice about the
cost. When will the big labels catch on.

    Haven't we done this before?
They are selling it at the Labels' market rate for CD's etc. in Russia yes.
The local market rate royalties are there to be collected.
It's the cross border bit that the Labels don't like.

IIRC the Ruskies looked again at this recently and reckoned it was ok,
despite a lot of Western press to the contrary.

The internet is global, innit John. You don't object to people getting you
stuff from the States $ for £ and bringing it back do you?

The art is to get someone in the states to buy it and send it to you as a
    gift.

or buy stuff less obvious than fucking mountain bike forks: clothes,
jewellery, small electronic items[1] are all fair game. Only did this
once, mind, and that was before 7/11 and security was less vigilent.

[1] send the manuals etc. by post.

In TOG's case it would be a new looking Nikon round the neck and a slightly
    older version in his luggage.

I bought a video camera in May last year in NYC and brought it back,
manuals, box and all. My attitude was if I got caught, I'd pay the
duty required but that I'd take the chance of not getting stopped[1],
    which worked.

[1] I'm not as frequent a flyer as some here but I've done enough and
I've only been stopped once. On one occasion I stopped voluntarily to
pay duty on a >ukp500 purchase but the customs bloke took one look at
the item and my paperwork[2] and sent me on my way. I think he was
    having a Kit-Kat moment.

[2] A receipt for the item valued at ukp190, the real receipt for
"insurance purposes" was tucked away safely.
