Christ, they're fast in France. Caught by an unmarked car on Wednesday,
fine received today. I was doing 121kph in a 110kph zone apparently.

The fine is €45 with one point knocked off.

Whilst I'll pay it now (otherwise after 15 days it goes up to €68),
it's going to be fun when I send details of my UK licence.

After having spoken to the "fine hotline" apparently I'll only be fined
and won't lose the points (or need to change my licence to a French
    one). This, I'm dubious about.

    Watch this space.

Heh, I wish it was the case. In France you start with 12 points and go
    down to 0.

Tsk. See what happens when you killfile UKRM's most informative poster?

I refer Sir to Article 4.2 of the Ministerial Decree of 8 February 1999..

Which is why you're probably going to have to resign yourself to changing
your licence, as the French authorities probably won't be willing / able to
deduct points from an official document that they didn't issue.

The A1 near to Chennevieres les Louvres, direction Lille.

Well, it's only one point after all.

Ah, that'll mean I should have been banned as soon as I arrived in
    France. :)

Y'know, it's no big deal but the only regret I have, is that I've not
been caught since 1991 (ish) for speeding. And I'm no Ginge (with
    apologies to Ginge).

Bad form, etc, but I've just seen that I've actually been nicked for
    114kph not 121kph. Tight gits. What's 4kph between friends?

Actually they measure 121, and you were likely to be at 121 or higher,
but to preclude any dispute about the measure, they subtract all error
margins... if it falls under the limit, you are safe... but they usually
set up their gear so that it triggers only for cases which end up over
    the limit.

Now tell me, was that a stopped car on the roadside or a car on the
road? And if the latter, since they caught you, they were shooting in
the back so while approaching the car you should have had plenty of time
to notice the quite bulky photographic gear before you get in the photo
    field?

I've had a couple of speeding tickets in France, both from permanent
cameras. One was about 2kph under a ban in a 90, and the other was just
slightly over the limit in a 70. Both times I've paid on the internet
and they haven't asked for any licence details. Yes, I still have a UK
licence. The passage Des quoted in this thread is correct though. I/we
are now obliged to change the licence by law after being bad.....

    Hmm..

The British add points, the franch take them off...

I see a useful system here.
