  2. I had the same type problem after hours of stripping and checking
circuits, noticed a wire in the manual that was connected to the gear
selector. Move the bike into neutral and kicked myself down to the
    pub.

IIRC it's because of fuel injection. I'm sure I remember reading
something about my GSXR750 the described the purpose of the switch was
to kill the fuel injection in the event of a crash, because fuel being
squirted at extremely high pressure and crashes are a bad combination.

Certainly my cars have inertial cut offs.

  6. I suspected some bikes had them, but they (and bump switches) have been
around in cars for years, to the extent that scrotes often know what
part to bang to unlock all the doors on some models.

    You should spend some time looking at a modern bike wiring diagram;
it's amazing what they include these days.

Someone once told me many years ago that the XS1100 had one, though it
    might have been bullshit.

I've a dim memory of seeing one on the CCT diagram of my V11, too. Or
    maybe the Aprilia

  11. On all modern Hondas. The one on my streetfighter was borked so I had
to make a plug that shorted it out to get the thing to run. Also a big
black box looked totally out of place once all the fairings were gone.

And it would appear that the metric clocks are either duff or bike
    specific.

I did put the old clocks back on when it didn't start at first and it
made no difference but, for whatever reason, I needed to cycle the
alarm a few times before it would turn over and I didn't do that on
    Monday.

When I cycle the alarm with the metric clocks, nothing changes and
    that's all repeatable.

So, was it the alarm that was keeping it from energizing the
    starter relay?

It would appear to have been some interaction between alarm and clocks
but, TBH, I didn't dig any further than proving that I could repeat the
    condition.
