Dealer's just called after whipping off the header pipes to replace the blowing manifold gasket. Only it wasn't the gasket. There was actually a crack (presumably vibration-induced) in one of the stainless header pipes, behind the heat shield, where it couldn't be seen. Cue one new set of pattern stainless headers. Paging the metallurgists: is stainless steel any more given to cracking than mild steel? Is it more brittle or summat?
