On a bike that age you can legally ride it with the indicators taped over
with black plastic. The lever is a cheap item as a pattern part.

Arse, lucky there's no plastic to break on those.
The brake lever you have is an LC one. XS had straight silver levers.
Either way, pattern ones are readily available. Try Worlds End
Mootorcycles in Hove, they stock lots of pattern parts for all sorts of
    Jap bikes.
Standard Yamaha XS/RD type. Again, you can get pattern ones for about
half the cost of Yamaha ones.

  5. I have oodles of early Jap lenses - I think I've got some that pattern.
Likewise, I have a big box of brand new ShiteoldLevers, and I wot not
    wot they fit.

You're welcome to have a rootle and take away whatever you want.

I'm aware of that but I have to tape them all up; it'll be quicker to
    change the lens.

I'm selling it and it looks shitty enough in it's Brit wannabe parallel
twin guise as it is. I'd rather not make it any worse by covering the
    lenses in insulating tape.

Not heard of them [1]... I'll give them a go. Cheers.

[1] Having looked them up I find out they're about a 15 minute walk
    away. Blimey.

I just meant as a temporary measure if you need to ride it. You can tape bags
over the whole units rather than clag it all up with tape on the lenses
    themselves.

Oh. I just ignore it - the bulb works. The three inch brake lever is a
    bit of pest though.

Especially with the original, shiny, non-grip disc.

I find the clang as the pads hit the disk calls the stopping fairies.
Unfortunately they take ages to arrive and they're lazy bastards.

I've managed to screw 50,000 miles from the front pads that were in the
CB250RS when I blagged it of WavyDavy. They are not in the slightest bit
worn either. They are made by Armstrong, which is what you need on the
brake lever to get any form of retardation from them.

    Perhaps I should have written:

"I'm hoping they're fairly standard Yamaha parts common across the
model range and aren't met with sniggering when I phone up a
breaker/specialist about them. Unlike certain Japanese duck's guts
machinery I have in my possession. Something that doesn't fucking happen
when I phone up about Guzzis or MZs. Oh no siree"

That may have made it clearer.

    Anyway, I've got TOG.

Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, sweller
    LOL.

I've been ringing around various breakers in Septicistan, trying to
track down a petrol tank for the Z13. One of them did make me smile:
    Neanderthal Motorcycle Salvage, in California.

Lol. Well to be fair it's a long way from the Yamaha factory to Brighton.
They're prolly tired when they get there too. Plus they are only tiny little
    nipponese stopping fairies of course.

    <awaits countersuit from TOG> :)
