What a ride I had today.

The ride was to the city of Bastrop, and lunch at The Yacht Club. The
restaurant is located in a shopping center called The Crossing, which
includes a women's clothing boutique, a pewter shop, an antique and
gift shop, several B&B cabins, and a restaurant called the Yacht Club.
It is literally on the bank of the Colorado River.

The trip from Katy took 2.5 hrs and was approx. 120 miles thru
Brookshire, Sealy, New Ulm, Fayetteville, and thru the Buescher and
    Bastrop State Parks.

The Park Road 1C connects the two (2) parks, and is a fantastic ride.
The 12 mile Park Road 1C/1A must be the closest road in Texas to US
    Hwy 129 thru Deal's Gap.

    There were thee (3) total on the ride. A V-Star 650 Custom, a V-Star
1000 Classic, and my 1997 Valkyrie Std. There is usually a $1.00
charge to ride thru the parks, but the Park Ranger waved us on thru!

  2. yah babee, that's one of the prettier routes to do as a loop. Lost
Pines of Bastrop and that area is one of the last densely forested areas
to the west and there is a great cutoff from 290 that puts you right
thru there and down to 71. When in Fayetteville, stop in at the cafe on
the square for lunch. They grind their own beef and the onion rings are
totally made from scratch. The whole area around New
Ulm/Fayetteville/Industry/Round Top has bunches of great roads with nice
    sweepers and elevation changes.

    nice day for riding too.

How you coming on those Arizona tour plans Butch?

That's an awesome road. Never done in on a motorcycle, but many times on a
bike. It is up and down, alot! Watch out for the cattle guards if it's
wet. The MS150 bicycle ride from Houston to Austin goes through there,
don't go in the middle of April unless you want to ride with 10,000
    cyclists.

Natchez Trace and Deal's Gap on a road trip this summer.

I do happen to have that book. I'm consulting it for a Hill Country
ride for the last weekend of this month. I will be staying in Bandera.

I am fortunate to live in Katy, and some of the better roads in the
Houston vicinity are north and west of town.

That's very generous of you. I'm always looking for great
roads/routes. I'm a ride coordinator for the Star Riders of Houston,
and accept all help and suggestions which come my way.

I hope we can meet up and ride together some time.

I think that lists 337 into Leakey. You HAVE to do that road. It's
the closest thing to a NM or Colorado road we have. ;-) Just one
warning, go S...L...O...W the first time through it. You can try to
scrape your pegs on the way back. ;-)

  11. specifically coing from vanderpool over the ridge.

and that's just one of the three 3s. there are two more in that area.
336 and 335 are not to be missed either.

336 is actually my favorite of the group, none of them are awful.
