I've had a few offs over the years, two were down to diesel, one was a
myopic pedestrian, another was a U turning car and all the others (and
there's been plenty..) are all my own work.

You can't blame a tyre for sliding on diesel, any tyre will.

I'll tend to go with Lozzo's advice, given his experience. Also bear in
mind this is a 150cc bike so 010s aren't really needed but cheap is.

Unfortunately finding a supplier of Cheng Shin locally is a bit tricky,
    especially in the sizes I want (2.75-18 F and 3.00-18 R).

Although I've seen some of the branded universal tyres at around £20 each

    Michelin M45
    Metzeler ME22
Dunlop K82 (these are nearly £30 each, far too much)
    Continental City

    Any opinions on these?

My local bike dealer doesn't stock Cheng Shin, but he has a Bickers
account, like almost every bike dealer in the UK. Bickers are the
importers of Cheng Shin, so sourcing them shouldn't be a problem.
I've had ME22s on RDs before, they were my sporty tyre of choice before
the BT45 and Barracuda came along, they stick very well. I suppose this
is because they are the same compound and tread pattern as the old ME1,
but on a smaller bias belted carcass.

  5. I think he's referring to an "off" suffered by the again-unemployed
    Ursine.

I'm just too subtle for this lot.

  7. Some are better than others, though. The old cheapies would slip-slide
away at the merest whiff of diesel on the road, while I found that
half-decent rubber wouldn't be quite as prone to it.

Having said that, I agree with you that no tyre is proof against letting
go if you hit the diesel hard enough while leaning or braking.

I've got a Continental City on the back of the RS[1]. It's black, round and
I haven't fallen off yet, about all I can say really.

  11. Pirelli Mandrake? Check for deep cracks beside the tread blocks.

Buggers they are, for that. One let go on a mate's bike and he near shit
himself. Not as much as the following drivers, who were swerving all
over the road to avoid him and each other.

I managed to outbrake a Mandrake on the Guzzi [1]. Never had one since.

Jamming your bike under their car is an interesting way of meeting nice
    German girls.

Looks ok at the mo. Will keep an eye on it though.
Can't see the RS outbraking anything TBH.
    Sounds like a plan

Ah, the very man. Been changing the points on the old RS tonight and one of
the screws is done up tighter than a gnats thong on a rhino. Do you reckon
that wapping it with an impact driver will damage the dynastart thingy?

Nah, go ahead, the magnets are on the rotor not the stator plate. Just
be careful you don't bend the stator plate with the impact driver. Have
you got a DTI and adaptor? You'll need them to do it properly.
