BT45 Tyre Life?

The current set of BT45 I have on my Guzzi look as if they're going to be
toast in another 1000 miles. This means they have had a life of just
    over 4000 miles.

They've been run at manufacturers recommended pressures, 2.5 and 2.8 bar

The last set only lasted about 5000 and Contis, Michelin, et al run for
    up to 6 - 7000.

Is this normal? Other owners (I think) get up to 10K, why is mine so
heavy on tyres. I don't weigh that much, don't do masses of motorway
work (they're not squared, just worn out) and I don't think I'm rough
    with them.

    Its not fair.

I got about 14000 out of the back tyre on the RT, so your mileage looks a
bit radical. OTOH you let Champ ride it last week...

This is a very odd thing.

I've had three pairs on the current BM that I've kept records for, I
went through a couple of sets on the last BM but didn't keep detailed
    records...

Anyhow,Set 1: 5,300 miles at the end the rear was 'ripping' the tread
blocks and the front had tears around the tread blocks too. Main use
was commuting in the late spring/early summer.

Set 2: 11,125 miles. At the end the front was ripping the tread blocks
but the rear wasn't, this included two trips to Bordeaux (approx 3,500
miles of the total) but the main use was commuting. Mostly used for
    commuting in the mid summer-autumn.

Set 3: Rear 5,500 miles. Front 8,000 miles so far, good for another 2k.
no ripping on either tyre. Main use has been commuting.

On the other BM which was lower geared I was managing aroun 5-6k a set
and went through a couple of sets.

So I think something's either variable in the compound or that cold
roads cause more tyre wear than hot ones. I will continue to research
this along with MPG. (I have logged details for about 8 years of
    motoring over multiple vehicles...)

Does Brighton have really abrasive roads?

That's very much what I got out of the BT45s on my K100 too.

I'm waiting to see on the FJ.

I may get 5000 out of the current set, which wouldn't be too different
from your experience. The rear does have a fair amount of unsprung
weight to contend with on the shaft drives.

The Guzzis have a reputation (apparently) of being heavy on fronts too.
I reckon on putting 7K on that.

It'll be interesting to see what you get from your chain driven FJ

    Yes, never thought of that.
The K100 seemed to eat up fronts as well, I usually put on tyres as a
    pair.
Hmmm, well I've done about 2000 miles on this set of BT45s already, so
we'll see soon enough I guess. They don't look bad so far though.

I've always done them as pairs in the past, but the fronts have never
been truly worn out. It's been a case of if I'm pissing about taking
wheels off at the tyre depot I'll do both.

Yeah, that's true enough, if they're near enough. The K100 used to wear
    the front somewhat 'strange'.
