    Not just sporty-touring gods!

<scampers out to measure chicken strips> Hmm, an inch. Not so bad...

    ****! Diablos!

Oh, now I remember. The Azaros were on the Trophy.

For my Drifter, Bridgestone Excedras rock.

Yes, there are chicken strips, but they grip well enough for the
footrests and even the frame to touch the tarmac without losing
    control.

I just googled, and it seems I've been using them since June 2003, it's
good that people are catching on now.

I've been using them for three weeks.

And I've probably done more miles that you on them.

Doubt it, the bikes got 22K on it, and I've been running them since 7K.

But, you have more bling, so we'll call it even.

Aren't Excedras OEM on Drifters? I'm pretty sure that's what mine came
with. What I found worked well was Avon Venoms with
    slightly-higher-than-standard pressures.

Oddly (or not), I've found the best tyres I've ever had for a
combination of grip/longevity/wet weather are Azaro3s but I'm not sure
what that deep tread pattern will do to a R1 ;)

Honestly, the amount of riding I actually do that'll get me anywhere
near the edge of the tyre and the amount of motorway miles I have to do
to get to roads that'll get me there, I really would consider 020s[1] or
    something.

[1] Another good tyre which I shredded and feathered to ****[2] when I
    owned my last Bandit.
[2] The bloke in Heinz Gerkin, Ilford was most impressed.

There's a load of bullshit spouted about tyres but I've come to the
conclusion that you'll get better grip from shit tyres with good
suspension than from any tyre with rubbish suspension.

Add in a small amount of ability when it comes to throttle control and
you'll get decent handling, long tyre life and no soiled pants.

    That's me fucked then.

when it comes to throttle control

Throttle control? Whassat then? I thought it was either wide open or closed.

    and
That would ruin a well formed relationship with my kecks.

Why you! I take it that means you want these part-worn Azaros I have

  18. I found the same with Continental "tourers" when I had my VS800.

Yes, Excedras are a Kawasaki OEM fitting, as are Dunlop D404s which I
won't get again due to some iffy handling and a resonance off the
    tread once it becomes worn.

Interestingly (or not, if you don't have a Drifter), for the front
tyre Bridgestone recommend 2.3 bar instead of the 2.0 bar in my
Owner's Manual, and this higher pressure is more stable with a better
    wear pattern.

Avon Super Venoms at higher pressure than standard were optimal for my
tweaked XJ900F, and would turn a lovely irridescent purple/gold colour
after I'd been "making good progress".

Not any more - outed back in September after 5 years and 30K miles.
The book said 28psi front and rear for the 800, which is about 1.9 bar, and
raised eyebrows anytime I was having tyres fitted. Higher was better,
    though.
Heh. You don't get to see much of the tyres on a Drifter...
