BT014s it is then.

  1. I asked a mate (who works at a bike shop) to price up some tyres for the
Blackbird, and it seems I agreed the price. This I don't remember.

    394 euros! Loose!

Ah well. Has anyone here tried BT014s on a big bike?

Got them on the gixxer. Seem OK in a black and round kind of way.

They most definitely are sports tyres. They'd last about 10 minutes on
    a Blackbird in that heat.

I've got them on the Gixer and they are seriously good tyres, even when
    squared off and knackered.

  4. I don't ride it in the hot weather. Probably won't use it now until
September- except for a little jeans and t shirt blat now and again to
    keep it running.

75 quid more than I paid for them ride-in/ride-out fitted.
    Yes. They're good.

I'm being quoted good prices for supply and fit to loose wheels,
haven't checked ri-ro prices yet. At the BMF I could have had a 190
rear fitted ri-ro for 115 quid.

My front still has a 1/2 inch chicken strip each side but the rear is
right off the edges. I can't figure it.

I lost interest in the "what's a good tyre" thing[1] a couple of years ago
when I started puncturing the fuckers with monotonous regularity. Is the 014
the replacement for the 010? I had 012s on the gixer and it went all weird
    on me.

[1] although Continental ContiForce SMs are pretty cool on a supermoto

Why not? I know you're crap at geometry, but you should have seen
    this before.

Perhaps you do need a Ducati.

I mean I've seen other gixers like mine running on 014s that have a
small chicken strip on the back, yet they have less of one on the front
than I have. How does that work then Mr Gingestein?
In addition to the bikes I have? Yes please if you're buying.

Different suspension setup - or even weight of rider, perhaps.

It is unusual IME for a road bike to have no strip on the front tyre,
yet frequent for there to be little or none to the rear. You know
that, ffs. That is the way that bike suspension geometry works - if
you're worried about it, drop both tyres to 5psi and nip round a
roundabout both ways, then blow them up again. That'll sort ya.

Not sure if it's a direct replacement. I know they're standard on a
lot of new Suzukis. There seem to be a lot of tyres available
nowadays that are "specific" to a certain bike, i.e. the BT011 on the
    front of a GSXR1000K*.

My front sounds about the same the the rear has about 5mm left now[1].
Given your riding compared to mine, that sounds about right to me.

These tyres are absolutey sport, I won't recomend you them for a blackbird
unless you want them for circuit racing. On my gsxr600 lasted less than
    3000 miles.

When I softened the front of the Raptor up from it's way too stiff
setting I got wear closer to the edge than I was getting(weight wasn't
coming forward properly was the theory suggested - I dunno, all I know
is it rides heaps better with the sag right and the compression
    lightened up)

may or may not be relevant

It was £10 a wheel for ri-ro. TST Tyres wanted £15 for the same. I
told them I'd had good service before, and was willing to ride further
to use them if they could match the fitting price.

I was told, rather abuptly, that if I could get it done for £10 less
then I should. So I did. It's done nothing for making up for the
broken promises re: 010s last year.

I've just noticed this part of the post. My 014s are the same, in that
the rear has much less strip than the front. The SV was like this too,
on 010s, then ISTR it evened out a bit on Avons (45/46). I've no idea,
but I'm happier that I'll run out of rear before I run out of front.

My Azaros are about the same both ends, which suggest to me that they

    fucking clue.

I am not too sure I would be happy to run out. That is a long way over
from where I am now and the implications for over enthusiastic exploring
of the possibilities have sort of grasped my imagination as I write and
I have decided that really must go out and find out tomorrow.

  20. **** all wrong with that. A price is a price. If someone works out what
they think is a reasonable price for doing something, why should they
change it? "Price promise" guarantees aren't compulsory you know.
