Finally got new rubbner for the gixxer last night and it feels awful. I'd clearly got so used to the triangular x-section front over the last few weeks that I've been using it most days that I can no longer cope with a normal shape. Thing is, I got to quite like the way it would just drop into a corner and sit straight up when I wanted it to. None of this 'graduated' steering that new tyres give. So, question for the FOAK. Hos can I make it feel, with new tyres, like it did with the old ones? Or will I just get used to them too? -- _______ ..'_/_|_\_'. Jack the back up a bit if it's got a ride height adjuster, or slide the forks up through the yokes if it hasn't. OK it won't feel quite the same, but it'll give it that droppy-in feel. You might want to crank the steering damper up a notch while you're at it.

I'm surprised you didn't go for something like Metzler Sportec M-1 like Ive just fitted to the ZX9R. Or the Rennsport. <URL:http://www.metzelermoto.com/en_86/t...9&product_list=catid=86SPSUP&productid=16829> They feel great. Drop down into corners dead quick. I guess you need to to some cols to get used to them.
I liked the handling characteristics of the M1, but wasn't wild about the rear grip. RoadRacing World (a very highly regarded mag in the states) recently did a 'blind' tyre test, & put the M1s 3rd from last, only beating the Maxxis & Conti. First place went to the D208 GP-A (although they did admit that's more track orientated than the rest so "a bit of a ringer"). Second was the Mich Pilot Power (which I've just bought), followed by the BT014, Diablo Corsa then Azaro AV49/50.
Two things spring to mind. 1) Do the new tyres have a higher wall? If so do as Krusty suggested and drop the forks through (try 5mm) 2) Play around with the pressures
Odd. I really dislike the "fall into corner" feeling you get with a worn front tyre. You'll get used to it.
I got used to it. What I did quite like was the speed with which it would sit up when coming out of a corner. Made for some, err, 'interesting' cornering lines ;-} I know. My OEM dunlop 207's are aeons better than the 020 pair on the Blackbird. Although the 12R is 'sportier' it pitches into bends more agressively [1], rather than having to be forced anywhere. Cheers Paul. [1] Yes yes, i'm aware i'm riding it rather than being ridden, but for the same riding style, the tyres feel more confidence inspiring ..
says... Strange that. I thought the D207s I had on the Firestorm and on the 9R were fucking awful, but the D207RRs I fitted to the Firestorm and the Thunderace were excellent.
TBH I cba to start messing around with different rubber. I'm more that happy with Bridgestones and have been using them in various guises for a number of years. And so far I'm more than happy with the 014s (notwithstanding my somewhat tongue-in-cheek comparison with the knackered old rubber). Very neutral steering is probably best all round for what I want, and that seems to be what they deliver. Certainly make for a much more relaxed ride. -- _______ ..'_/_|_\_'. I think these are the standard 207 Sportmax. I'll have a shuft tonight. Hell, I may even take it out and give it beans. Cheers Paul.
