wrote Probably some foreigners in the crowd. Extremely bad form and all that but what can you expect, they are not British.
Presumably because he'd just beaten Haslam (a Brit) to the title. -- Krusty www.MuddyStuff.co.uk Off-Road Classifieds '02 MV Senna '03 Tiger 955i '96 Tiger '79 Fantic Hiro 250

Even though Leon had beaten himself by making a rooky tactical mistake in race 1. You would think with all his experience he would have been able to realise that the race would possibly not go full distance.
It didn't matter. Even if he'd won race one, he'd still have been 8 points behind. Like he said in the interview - he didn't lose it on the day, the championship was over the whole season.
My mistake, I thought he was 18 points behind, not 8. I was obviously remembering the gap after the first race, or summat.
Was the race stopped for rain then? I thought it was stopped because Shakey Byrne took a flyer and enough laps had been completed to call it the finish. It looked to me as if Haslam was in a reasonable position to attempt an overtake but the red flag stopped him doing so. Until that point the second start was never going to be stopped early so your assessment of the race doesn't agree with mine. Different views etc...
The first start of race one was stopped for rain when Haslam was leading - he wasn't happy about. Then the restart was stopped because of Shakey, a lap or two after Kyo had re-taken the lead from Haslam. Whilst you're correct, Haslam said in the post-race interview that he planned to sit in second until the last three laps. I suspect this is what gomez is referring to. -- Krusty www.MuddyStuff.co.uk Off-Road Classifieds '02 MV Senna '03 Tiger 955i '96 Tiger '79 Fantic Hiro 250
Surely once they'd restarted the race it had been declared a wet race and only a crash would end it prematurely? Anyone who races with a potential red flag for a crash as part of their strategy has to be barking mad. The championship was won over a season and Kyonari deserved to win it but Haslam had valid reason to be pissed off at the way the first race finished.
Normally yes. But this was the last round of the series and Haslam knew he *had* to win both races. He (and his crew) did not follow this line of thought through and didn't cover the possibilty of a red flag after 2/3 distance. I seem to remember Vali in a similar situation *did* work this out (or maybe he was reminded by JB)
