Well Pipster I define lunatic fringe, The Greenies in this case, as folk who
ignore practical working solutions within a developing society in favour of
a backpedaling Tee-Pee dwelling luddite agenda. In doing so they set the
cause back on its heels. What's you issue, are you a supporter of Current
    Things Greenpeace.

You are normally pretty easy to follow but I don't see a parallel with the
Sea Shepherds. They are on a very different tack with a straightforward
issue which has pretty overwhelming public support, so I can't describe
their actions as lunatic. Bold and very dangerous, physically and legally,
granted. I find it a little difficult to be completely objective as I
support their goal but I'll comment thus far. They are based in the USA, if
half the bad press was true do you think uncle Sam or the lawyers would have
let them continue? There has been lots of press about the concrete prows,
all of it mentions ramming, none of it protection against floe ice.

Of course Watson is involved in lots of other stuff which is waaay out
there. Degrees of lunacy. No arguments there.

  5. For some strange reason it still led to my needing a visa to enter
France for many years thereafter. I guess if the Poms can't tell us apart,
the Frogs have got no chance.

Paul Watson? yeah he's an ubber **** for sure. Trouble with vigilante
action is that invariable runs out of control or goes off message, I
    know this only too well.
I'd sooner see the RAF and USAF instructed to sink any whaling ship
hunting on the high seas. This was just a (ex) veggie hang up until I
watched the Beluga whales in Atlanta aquarium. They were at least as
intelligent and more deserving of life as some of the human observers.

I'd have to sample the respective flesh of both to be sure though.

Hmm well at least I enjoy my work, like the people around me and believe
it will achieve something worthwhile fairly soon. Does wonders for the
    sanity.
