Broken ribs. Heal quickly, yes?

Being in a car isn't great either - a guy I used to go out with broke
a couple of ribs playing football and I fetched him back from the
hospital. He claimed he was tough, and as he'd ruined a long-planned
evening out, I tested him on it.

I broke three ribs about 20 years ago and have re-broken then twice
since. Every break is different but mine have never really healed
properly and it only seems to take one well placed punch to leave me
    sore for weeks.

    I'm sure you'll be fine :-/

There seems to be a few things implied here. First, that football
injuries - like, say, motorcycle racing injuries - are essentially
self-inflicted. A position on this view of "Yes, and so what?" is
probably more easily defended than one of "No they aren't".

Second, the reference to a ruined evening would seem to imply that
Snowy had to abandon her plans in order to cart the wounded soldier
home from Casualty. To do so is laudable; to be less than pleased
about the necessity is perfectly understandable. To have a little fun
at the victim's expense, in the circumstances, seems entirely
    reasonable.

Finally, there may be a view being put forward here that being
tormented by Snowy is not entirely a good thing...

By no means. The corollary is that your actions may have consequences
    - even the decision to not get out of bed. I'd prefer to take part
and accept the consequences: "Take what you want, and pay for it."
Perhaps: I don't think it's material. The effect was the same.
    I'd like to think so.
I remember that. You seemed to receive a deal of (possibly not
entirely sincere) sympathy from the distaff side.

You don't have to be tough to "ignore" three broken ribs, just guilty for
breaking more than your wife's ribs. It's not easy lifting wimmin into and
out of bed with broken ribs either, but it's di-able.

hmmm. Sorta like an ex of mine? She drove me home from the hospital
and kept grumbling. "You said we could spend the night in bed, and
damn it, we're still going to, I don't care how much it hurts!"

It's not that kind of torment. Snowy doesn't even know she's doing it.

Mine took weeks before I stopped noticing them hurt and even now 5
years on I get the odd twinge. Recent scans for another reason still
    show the breaks.
