Plusnet 512kB has been OK for me for 6 months, and they are now doing
2MB for only £19.99 (2 GB max download per month, each extra GB at
    £2.10).
    I'm signing up soon!

Bulldog have been acquired by C&W, and it's going much the same way
as INS did 5 years ago. They had entire networks down for days
recently, and their helpdesk was closed down due to staffing problems.

The One True DSL provider is Zen, who've done me right twice now, even
when BT failed to actually do _anything_ when they were meant to activate
my latest one. Their support bods are excellent, and everything else Just
    Works (tm).

  11. I'm on Pipex and have no complaints either. As for re-booting the box,
every now and again (like once a month, if that) it drops the
connection. Turn off the modem/router, wait two minutes, turn it on
    again, job done.

Mind you, Pipex's news feed is utter shite, so make sure you have a
    different newsreader.

Sounds simple enough but it's well annoying if you're in the middle of a
    game.

    Ahh, an essplanation...
Mmm, sounds all quite normal then for BY. We've had near identical
    experiences, then.

    Getting exceedingly technical on their asses didn't help, either;
they've got good techies on 2nd-line, but sadly, you have to jump
through their process-driven hoops before you get to speak to them or
get them to send someone who actually knows what an Ethernet packet is
    out to you.

The frustration usually increases when they send some monkey out to
allegedly "tweak" the box in the street 'cause invariably whatever it is
they do gets you back on line for about half a day before it goes tits-
up again, you once more have to shout and scream at their 1st line
types, re-log the call and then they offer you some vague appointment
time at some stupid hour of the day -- "We can call between 7am and 2pm,
is that ok?" -- and then send out another gibbon, this time with a
    replacement (usually newer) cable modem.

    [crosses fingers]

Service has been uninterrupted now for [checks firewall status log] ooh,
    79days, 1hr, 57mins.

Yep, and factor in some low level dipshits whose reports somehow fail to get
to the right place necessitating another call out, another day off work for
    the same issue.
