This topic was on our intranet recently.Demographics aside, there is a
school of thought that squaddies coming back from ops are still running
at operational levels of aggression and risk taking and this is being
reflected in the higher numbers of them being killed in traffic
incidents in general, not just on two wheels.

I think Higgins is right. The forces aren't for people that have a
defensive nature in life. Soldiers (moreso that the RAF or Navy, IMO,
as they're on the ground) are trained to have an aggressive instinct
and this carries on in all things that they do, including riding bikes.

Adding to this, I'd put a tenner on it, that the majority of biker
deaths in the forces would be young squaddies. I reckon that young
squaddies, who aren't married, live in barracks and manage their money
decently (long tours where they've got bugger all to spend it on helps)
are more inclined to by decent bikes, because they stand out from the
crowd. Following on from this, if they've got the dosh, I reckon
they're more likely to purchase a Gixxer Thou than a CG125 (MSOTHP).

It doesn't say `on a bike', it says `on the road'.

According to my mate who has done some work on this for the army, one
of the problems is squaddies doing long road trips to get home for a
weekend: think of the Black Watch getting from Warminster to Scotland
    and back.

He wasn't on the bike when he died.

Could be. Where are you going to be, as I've no idea how long it will
take to get into town from here. Here being around Bordet/Evere.
