Brisbane Bike Servicing

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by news.iinet.com.au, May 8, 2006.

  1. Can anyone recommend a decent (ie honest) mechanic for servicing my CBR600
in Brisbane? Last couple of services have left a lot to be desired.

    Thanks

  2. When we had the 'Storm, we used Pro Honda at Rocklea. Unfortunatly,
they got a new workshop manager in about 2 years ago, and it was
shortly after that that we vowed never to go back. Unfortunatly, I
couldn't even recommend em before that "incident" either.

The 'Storm used to drop it's idle too low, and had a tendency to stall
after pulling up to a set of lights. It was fitted with unrestricted
Staintunes, but didn't (I believe) have any airbox work or jetting.
Talking to them on numerous occasions, I was told flat out "it's a big
twin with big pipes - they all stall like that". Fixed it myself by
winding up the idle throttle stop - not amazingly elegant, but it did
the trick. Every time I took it in for a service, they'd re-set the
idle back to factory settings, and we'd be in for a week of stalling
before I finally got sick of it and wound it back up (usually on the
side of the road, just past a set of lights, half way to work at 7am).

So I can't recommend them, I'm afraid. Never really did anything
amazingly wrong (other than general "we can tell this guy anything"),
but didn't do anything amazingly right either.

Since getting the Sprint from Powercycle (Team Moto Virginia is it's
proper name now, I think), we've taken it to them once, and they seemed
OK. There was a big muck up, whereby the sales guy didn't actually book
us into the workshop, so after we'd rode an hour to get it there at
7:30 the workshop guys just looked at us with blank expressions. That
said, they _did_ fit us in, and managed to scurry up a loner bike for
us. The workshop guys themselves came across as very knowledgable and
actually listened to what we were saying.

A mate has been taking his Daytona to them as well, and has nothing but
praise for them, after receiving less than satasfactory service from a
    couple of different dealers himself.

So that's been our experience. Have only used Powercycle once, but was
reasonably happy with em. Put it this way - the Sprint's almost due for
it's next service, and we'll be taking it to them again. Take from that
    what you will!

    Thanks!
    Matto :)
05 Sprint ST - Which ended up sitting in the garage all weekend instead
of the planned ride, due to a certain puppy taking an unexpected (and
expensive) trip to the vet. He'll be OK. Sedated, but OK.

  3. Team Moto Virginia aren't bad, most of them seem to have a clue, price is
pretty good too! My son-in-law and his brother take their bikes their and
they rave about them, mainly because of price but their service isn't bad
    either.

On the northside still; I just bought a back tyre for my Fzr1000 from Noyes
Honda at Brendale, they seemed pretty good if not a little dearer. But I
can't complain about the service. I was going to take the bike to Team Moto
but the growing canvas patch which was showing through kept me a little
    closer to home. :)

    John from Wynnum Motorcycle Repairs

Steered away from larger workshops because its a bit of a lottery on
who you get on the day. With John I have a consistentcy, I also like
the fact over time he gets to know the bike and its history.

The problem with asking for people's opinions is that you'll just get
    people's opinions.

don't know - from memory his surname is Coonan. I know that besides
his 'hobby' of working on bikes, he is also into flat track racing
    nowdays.

Cunts charged me $500 to paint my tyres black once (back when they were
    Northside Suzuki).
I take every opportunity to badmouth them now.

  9. How long ago was that?

I suppose that's why I pretty much just buy tyres and parts and do the rest
myself,,, alright if you can I know.

  12. I'd give Northside Motorcycles at Brendale a go if your in the area

I buy all my tyres from there and find the service top class
Can't really comment on the their servicing skills as I do all my own work
on the Boxer and their not really set up to work on Ducatis'

But there're always bright and cheerful and helpful so I reckon they're
    worth a go

It's always good to build up a repore with your mechanic which is sometimes
harder in the larger shops due to high staff turnaround
