You could always go and build yourself a nice patio or swimming pool or
    something ...

How about drugs, while driving a Eurostar? It'd be like that Michel Gondry
    video, only *real*

Odd innit, most of my life effort has been tailored towards not leaving
a mark, not even a little stain.

This helps, especially on the lingering odour front.

Some stone-effect cladding will look nice too

Completely changing to topic from work and fools.. have you decided
what you're doing re: ferries yet?

Decided? No. Seeing as you're so bored at work, why don't you do a
quick web search and present the options to The Tourists?

I'll see how it goes... I'm not so much bored as waiting for a phone
call that's going to clarify how shit the next 12 months might be..

I favour the tunnel, as it's less hassle and doesn't involve removing
tankbags, or fucking about on staircases.

uh huh. To be honest, I'd rather *go* from Portsmouth, as a crossing
into Normandy makes the journey down to SW France much easier.
However, coming back from Belgium, the Dover/Folkestone crossing is
the only sensible option. Given that I'm fairly sure we can't go out
on one and back on another, I guess we'll have to do Dover/Folkestone.

The only reason for taking a ferry over train are a) cost and b) you
can sit down and get a meal on the boat, saving a stop on the road.

So, we need to know costs and times.

When I saw your name, I thought "what have I got hopelessly wrong this time"

I won't say it was a pleasure to find it was something different, but it
certainly beat the usual "thick cnut" type reply :)

OK, Via the website for guide prices (I picked the cheapest options,
    with no promotion codes)

    Option 1 P&O
Portsouth - Le Havre 08:30 8/7/05 (only 3 choices, one is overnight)
    Calais - Dover 12:05 18/7/05
    ?140

    Option 2 P&O
    Dover - Calais 11:15 8/7/05
    Calais - Dover 12:05 18/7/05
    ?70

    Option 3 Eurotunnel
    Dover - Calais 14:06 8/7/05
    Calais - Dover 11:58 18/7/05
    ?83

Nowhere to sit, and nothing to do.

I wouldn't take a bike on the tunnel again.

uh huh. Fair bit more, then
And these two are much of a muchness. I wonder if Black Mike is
following this thread? Except, he's not coming out at the same time,
so it's just up to you and me, I guess. Go on - you choose :)

For 40 minutes, after a 2 or 3 hour ride to get there from here..
don;t see it as an issue.

The only thing that grates with me is the lack of flexibility WRT
    boarding times and prices.

    No worries....

Thinking of the fact I'll have been in a tent for 2 days... I'm
changing my mind and saying ferry, as it's easier to have a wash up on
    the way back.

Now... Does anyone have an offer code from one of the bike mags, please?

    What? They're completely flexible, ime.

Based on the website it seems their prices vary wildly at different
times of the day and tickets aren't flexible.

The reality of that may vary from the policy, but that's not what's
    printed..
