I regularly get bored with the status quo and stir things up, but I've
resigned myself to the fact that it's almost impossible to change the
way 5 layers of management do things, so there's only so much boat
    rocking worth doing...

So I take their money, and do my bit as well as I can, and try not to
    let things affect me.

Oddly enough, I've done a fair few work things in years past that
feel, at least to me, to me like significant acheivements. Others may
not agree, but I can at least feel proud of some of them.

I guess I just use that to justify myself somewhat, but wtf, eh?

    Loads better.

I spent a day on Bruce's gixxer so know they fit ok, it didn't twist my
hand in a way that caused the pins and needles, and I got off able to
walk. It's more the angle of the wrist than the weight on it, I
    suspect.

I'm in no rush to change though, the ZRX is fun, I'd just like
something sporty as well, rather than instead of.

If I do anything this year it'll be chopping the SZR in for a used
    600/750/1000, I suspect.

Why not measure the position of seat, bars and pegs on both bikes
and modify the Gixxer to match the Strom?

Nigel should be able to machine a new top yoke to take ape-hangers
and a pair or rearsets that will bring the pegs forward.

I think your right on that score. In fact, in my last review my boss
told me that some people in the company had the perception that I'm
lazy. I didn't exactly deny it...

Er.. you have seen the riding position of a V-Strom vs a GSX-R, yes?

A V-strom has the most upright _wide_ bars you're likely to ever find, along
with a massive seat, and a rather different arm reach. It' a bolt upright
    riding position.

The pegs are surprisingly high too (though this isn't a problem for me).

If you got a GSX-R riding position to be bolt upright, the weight on the
front wheel would be different. I've said before that, IMO, bikes are
designed to work as they are - I don't believe that sticking upright bars on
a GSX-R 1000 will do the handling any favours - it wasn't designed with that
    in mind.

Others will disagree I am sure.

oh, I know what you mean. Mostly though, I've just been involved in
stuff that was "just a website" at the end of the day. That's changing,
though, but no matter what, I'll never really do anything that you
could point at in 10 years time and say, "I did that".
indeed. I'm not proud of what I do, I'm proud of how I go about doing
    it.

I probably could point at stuff in 10 years time, but they'd still just
be websites or sucessful .coms that will likely still advertise on Tv.
    All a bit lame really.

It's the curse of a generation I suspect - my father can point at
things he built, which to me feels far more wothwhile as they'll likely
be there in 50 or 100 years. Whereas nowadays it's all so disopsable.

I'm proud of both what I do and how I do it. I just don't seem to enjoy
    it anymore.

I've been lucky enough to have a couple of them, one of which resulted
in a publication, but there are several products I've written where I
can look back and say that they're still better than anything others
    have managed since.

    Which is nice.
